Who's got Virgin Media's TiVo?

Anyone else experience the menu bar appear randomly showing what's on that channel at the time? Have also had the channel change itself a few times
Getting quite annoying now, didn't know if anyone else had such issues?

I am not the only person to compain about it - I get it over hdmi and optical - obviously only when I select HDMI override.

If you select HDMI override then you can get sound inc DD over the HDMI.

Other issues I get - buzzing through all 5 speakers when paused and fast forwarding, not rewinding.
Never get anything like this from the amp any other time

I didn't say you were the only person to complain. I was just saying that I have been to a lot of faults in my time as a technician (16 faults a day) and not once have I seen the issue you describe.

To me that would suggest that it is not a common fault

Thats very interesting for you to say that

The 2 technicians I have had out have both said they know 0% about wiring up the V+ to a AV Receiver.
And they wont get involved in that.

There is not loads onlone about it but I have foudn other threads where people have got the same issue - even on the Virgin Media forum I have read it on there.

I have 100% sound through my av receiever - I would assume a lot of people do not do this and get sound direct from the TV.
Its every now and then random sound drop outs and buzzing when FF and pausing or when stopping a recorded program.

I have to mute my system all the time through fear of speaker damage

same here. engineers look at my AV kit and look all puzzled. the guy who first installed V+ actually told me that i should only use hdmi for HD and use scart for the other channels as it looks better... i guess in a way he could be right as the menus looked odd and their boxes dont upscale as well as a good TV or AVR

That seems the most ridiculous suggestion I have ever heard.

Thats discounts all upscaling off your V+ box or Amp - thats seems very wrong to me. I think the Samsung V+ does a good job upscaling its a shame about a lot of its other features and issues - namely sound

Ok so I realised something yesterday. I get the same issue you have described and have had it for as long as I can remember however the only program it happened on was Big Bang Theory on E4 HD. And it only happened when people laughed.

It used to happen on my Sky+ HD box also and only on that same channel and only when the laughing was heard. It also only happens on some of the episodes not all of them.

i know, i was amazed. he looked very scared of my HC setup too and didnt want to connect it so i told him to just connect to TV and i would sort after he has gone. i didnt want someone messing with my kit if he didnt know what he was doing anyway!

edit: i will admit the original V+ box upscaling wasnt great and the text looked horrible. the samsung looked better and the tivo looks stunning

you sure you got the 1tb version? the 1/2 tb one is £3/mth unless you got some kind of deal. we got our box in december and its 70% full already.

i dont know which we have thats what im trying to work out :P
my missus said we could either have a V+ or a tivo but the tivo would be £3 /month so she got the tivo
he never said wether it was 500gb or 1tb

acording to the virgin website they are both £3/month

i just looked in the help & settings > system info
recording capacity : 59hours for hd , or upto 258 for SD

EDIT:
With the TiVo 1TB box you can record up to 500 hours of normal TV or 100 hours of HDTV while with the 500GB box you can record up to 250 of standard definition TV or up to 50 hours of HD TV
guess we only have 500gb :( (but i no 49.99 fee so meh :P)

When pushing the info button on my TiVo remote, the programme synopsis appears but does not show it all, it has a elipsis at the end and I can not figure out how to view all of the synopsis. Any ideas?

Has any one here had any luck swapping their second box for a TiVo, if so what charges did you pay? We're currently on Virgin VIP and the second box is an ancient SA non-PVR which I would like to swap for TiVo :).
