Please help me decide on my first lenses!

Thanks for all the replies guys. Think I may be further away from a decision now than I was before! :D

In my honest opinion, that's probably good news.

I think a used 5d will be outside my budget though if I want to get decent glass with it as well.

£500-600 for a body, leaves £400-500 for a prime, maybe two, then build up slowly.
If you still want a zoom, a Tamron 28-75mm 2.8 is a good budget choice.

I have just upgraded from the A230 to the A65. A huge inporvement and thats using my old A230 kit lense so i hope i will see even better results with a new better lense.

The viewfinder for me was better, as it means i could see what i was shooting quicker and also pick up better settings for the shot. Yes it does become slow and grainy in dark rooms but is more clearer (if that makes sense), it also makes those who wear glasses easier to use.

Its not my main hobby so doesnt get used as much as some but i wouldnt hesitate to recomend it as an upgrade. I do think the A77 extra features dont warrant the extra cost, but its upto you what you do with the money in your bank!

Good look.

Option 2 - Canon EF-S 17-55mm f/2.8 IS USM (2nd hand) = £975 - I like the low light capabilities of this lens but not sure if I would miss the higher range and the 2mm from the bottom. Also not sure if there would be much point having a 50mm prime with this as can't see it being used much with this lens.

....

£975 2nd hand?

They're around £750 brand new aren't they? Am I getting confused?

I've ever really considered Sony for some reason. Looks to be a decent camera though.

It would certainly give me something to consider though I won't be buying anything until April.

Leaning towards the 17-55 now I think as I believe that will match my needs better.
