Zone Of Enders & MGS HD collection

I need to finish Mass Effect 2 before I buy another game but I can't resist these... I might have to pop into Asda or something tonight and cave under the pressure. :p

No idea if they're actually planning on doing it, my guess is no as it would require a tremendous amount of effort to bring it up to a respectable standard. When people mention copyright they're probably referring to the fact that Twin Snakes was co developed by Silicon Knights which doesn't change the fact that the story, characters and everything else still belong to Konami, I don't see where there would be a copyright issue.

if i remember correctly reason was its not been done is was to much of a job to just retouch it .....so its going to be done again with full bells and whistles ... there is an interview on it somewhere

ah .. found it :-

brief copy/paste :- " Although now available to download on the PSN, it hasn’t been scrubbed up for inclusion in the Metal Gear Solid HD Collection (9/10 in our review). Is this a sign that it’s set for its own hi-def treatment further down the line? “There are a lot of people wanting remakes of the original, and as producer I want to answer those calls” say Kojima. “But as a creator I’m not very interested in going back. If we were to do it, it would have to be a total remake – the only thing that would be the same would be the story. If it happened at some point I would stay as a producer, but would have to hand off most of the actual creating.”

I still can't help but think there most be another business reason for not including the original, same with the silent hill collection. Who is going to say an old game they bought looks too old to play? Old films and music are perfectly fine. I would say 99% of people buying a game collection would want the opening chapter as they remember it anyway. It just goes to show although we've come along way the games industry is still in its infancy in many respects, especially when it comes to back catologues.

The decision was probably made easier as you can at least play the PS1 version on the PS3, unlike the Playstation 2 versions which will only work on the rare models.

This is £40 in the local high street shop, that may or may not be closing!

Was quite surprised they had stock (2 ps3 copies).

Still leaving out the 360 and offline ps3 users which I imagine is a large percentage of the target market.

I doubt that there are that many Playstation 3 users who don't have access to the Internet, plus it's playable on PSP or on PS3 via the original Playstation disk, I do agree that it's strange that Konami have omitted it from the Xbox 360 though. I doubt we'll ever know the real reason why they haven't given it an HD upgrade, personally though I do believe it would simply be too time consuming to bring the Playstation version up to a high enough standard. Fans of the series would probably accept the Playstation version running at a slightly higher resolution and with a clean up of some of the textures but it would still end up looking inconsistent and very dated. They could use Twin Snakes as a base graphically, but I have a feeling that Kojima would want to use the original version, his and Konami's baby and not something that was given a different slant by a different developer. You just have to watch some of the cutscenes in Twin Snakes to see that it has a completely different feel and direction to it half of the time, despite the main story being the same.

I agree when you say that people shouldn't buy an old game and then complain it looks like an old game but you know what the majority are like, there's people in this very thread saying they're disappointed by it when it's only a touch up, not a built from the ground up experience. Can you imagine what those same people would be like if Konami released a touched up version of a Playstation 1 game? :p
