I'm after a horror survival game

I like a bit of action in there too but must important is a scary atmosphere. Here's my top few scary games to create an idea of what sort of thing I'm after:

Silent hill
Resident Evil
Penumbra

My best scary game: Forbidden Siren

Any recommendations?
 
Stalker can and will make your trousers a darker shade of brown. It could be in the survival horror genre... at a push.

Dead Space 1 and 2 are pretty good.

Amnesia and then the user created mods, those will scare you much more than the vanilla game.

I have FEAR 1 & 2, 1st one is a cracker, played through several times. Can't remember why I didn't finish FEAR 2, maybe another game came along. Might be worth another look.

I have dead space 1 & 2, both excellent games, I wish there were more games around like this.

Stalker SOC & COP are up there with my best all time games & I agree they could be classed as horror, though I've played through SOC with mods so many times. Only played COP vanilla, are there any mods out there which make it worthy of another playthrough?
 
I've sadly only played SoC.

Can't help you on the mods for CoP, unless "complete mod" is on all the games, then that's a safe bet to go with.
 
Alan Wake is coming on 16th Feb to Steam wait for that if you want something new to PC otherwise all of these are excellent on PC:

Silent Hill Homecoming
Silent Hill 2,3,4
Dead Space 1 + 2
 
Don't bother with Silent Hill Homecoming on PC. If you play on anything 1920x1080 or above the map is cropped and you can't see the rest of the rooms. Total pain in the backside and imo a game breaker which I see no way to fix unless you game on a lower res.

As you liked FEAR 1 then how about the expansions, 'Fear Extraction Point'...and 'Perseus Mandate'? They cost next to nothing and seeing as you liked the first I think you'll most likely enjoy these.

Regarding mods for Stalker COP, one or two caught my eye here though I haven't tried them yet :

Oh,...there's also 'Amnesia' for those brave enough. Certainly the most scary game I have ever played. ;)

Amnesia is a gud game but a word of warning there is no combat its more of a hide than shot survival horror game.

I think your more looking for Deadspace 1 +2 or slightly older condemned

Not played Siren before, might have to check that out. PS2 only right? which is fine by me, just checking as I don't see a PC version. Have to dust down the PS2 or load it via PCSX2
 
Amnesia I'd suggest (haven't read thread so you might have forgotten to mention in your OP).

I quite like the first FEAR - although it's not strictly in the genre you're asking for.
