I'm not sure just a director, cast and genre is really the basis for a movie.

I'd start making the Stainless Steel Rat series by Harry Harrison.

A Number of Films I'd make (if I had the Mulah!):

Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy (a proper version!),
The Restaurant at the End of the Universe,
Life the Universe and Everything,
So Long and Thanks for All the Fish,
Mostly Harmless,
And Another Thing...

Dirk Gentley's Holistic Detective Agency,
Long Dark Teatime of the Soul.

Starship Titanic.

*Yes I'm a mahoosive D.N.A. fan!! :D *

Red Dwarf: Infinity Welcomes Careful Drivers.

Although as an idea its been knocking around on the net for years, I'd make a film version of Half Life 1 + 2. Directed by either Scott or Del Toro.

So many

A proper Doom film that actually goes to hell and doesn't skip on the horror

A proper 3 movie trilogy of DUNE, generally keeping the production design of the lynch movie but hire HR Giger to do more designs

Remake Fritz Lang's Metropolis as a thoughtful modern epic in a Bladerunner style nior

Give another shot at the The last airbender, give it to a director that know what the hell he's doing and is closer to the TV series, i don't care if it ends up as a 3hr epic. change all the actors except the girls, they were spot on. Then complete the trilogy

i probably think of more later

Enders Game is in production at the moment, should be interesting.

Personally I would have to make Altered Carbon by Richard Morgan.

A dark gritty Sci-fi detective movie with sex, violence and intrigue!

.....than if there was an unlimited budget then entire Commonwealth Saga followed my the Confederation Trilogy.

Well if it were me

1 - The Camel Club by David Baldacci. Great story with intriguing characters and took a few twists and turns that surprised me.

2 - The Artifact - A sci-fi novel by Patrick Astre.

3 - A Small Percentage - another Sci-Fi story by Jim Cline

4 - THe Deathstalker Series by Simon R. Green. OTT Sci-Fi that you don't have to think too much about!

I'd make a relatively accurate telling of the American War of Independence from the side of the British.

Director: Peter Weir
Writers: Bernard Cornwall and Dewey Lambdin (for a bit of spice)
Actors: Ian McKellen (Cornwallis), Anthony Hopkins (possibly as King George), Richard Griffiths (as Prime Minister), Robert Lindsay, Sean Bean, Russell Crowe, Ewan McGregor, Robert Carlyle, Ian Holm...Jonny Depp, Gene Hackman, Tom Hanks, Ed Harris, Paul Giamatti Leonardo di Caprio and Jeremy Clarkson with a cameo shooting an american played by Mel Gibson. Jean Reno can play some French part

I'd have it on a scale with Lord of the Rings in three or four parts and enough merchandise to make me richer than Gates was before he went charitable.

Soundtrack: Clint Mansell

I went to IMDB to search for it before my brain engaged. :(
