Radeon 6990, 7970 or GTX 580?

I know the 7970 is new and the 580 is NVidia's current flagship - but the 6990 seems to be highly rated? what's that all about.

I am currently running two cards that I want to replace with one. GTX480 + ATI 4870.

My main application is World of Warcraft, but I multi-box so run 5 copies simultaneously - so RAM on the video card is important.

Has anyone got opinions about the choice between these cards?

Thanks,

Cheers, patience for technology is not a virtue i have, best I can hope for is that I forget about it and be pleasantly surprised when it's announced.

how are you managing to run those two cards together?

Managing fine :) a monitor plugged into each, the cards resources are used by the game running on that card/monitor. Multi-boxing I run one game on the primary monitor and four games in split screen on the secondary.

If I bought a 7970 which should I go for?

The cheapest imo, as they're all the same reference card, the only differences are

Warranty
Bundled leads
Stickers on card
Price

I have http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-140-PC&groupid=701&catid=56&subcat=938 and it's £2 more than the OcUK one, and the same price as the VTX, I got so many bundled leads that i'll never use!

Btw, as you have over 100 posts and have been on here for more than 12 months, you get free shipping :) http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showpost.php?p=12925483&postcount=1

Can't speak for the 7970 but the 6990 is not a quiet card. It has one fan as per the 6970 to do the job of cooling two cores. The card gets hotter, the fan runs faster. I have to run mine at a fair lick to get it to keep the cores below 70 degrees in BF3, in a well ventilated case.

6990 should be avoided, it runs hot, noisy and expensive (2 x 6970s or 2 x 6950s are better value, quiter and don't run as hot). Better off with the best single GPU card you can afford and at a later date if you need more power add a 2nd one when they have come down in price a lot as they always do.
