Looking for a nice place to eat in Brighton, something a bit more special than the usual, eg to make a night of it.

Willing to spend, but would like to keep it somewhat reasonable (no £100 bottles of wine thanks :p).

Anyone got anywhere to recommend?

Been to Fat Leo's and Donatello before, and whilst they're great at accommodating stuff "sweet" stuff, I'm not sure it's the right place.

Thanks. :)

If you like your fish then try Dermot O'Leary's Fishy-Fishy - great restaurant, not badly priced either.

Hotel Du Vin is good, main courses are about £15-25 each - http://www.hotelduvin.com/hotels/brighton/bistro.aspx
Terre a Terre if you fancy veggie food - http://www.terreaterre.co.uk/
The Chilli Pickle if you fancy Indian with a difference - http://www.thechillipickle.com/

They are my usual ports of call if I want something a bit more than Nandos!

Any in particular you'd recommend for a "dolled up" date?

I don't think I've been to the first two that Hate recommended, however Chilli Pickle is a very good, albeit different, Indian - I think it's overpriced personally but the food is very good.
Fishy-Fishy would be fab for a dolled up date :)

Some nice recommendations for a meal :

Due South - on the seafront. Fantastic views and very good food.

Havana - nice food served in a faux Cuban setting. Possibly overpriced for what it is but a nice restaurant to dine in.

Sams at Seven Dials - Quite close to the station. Nice food and good service but not central.

Graze - On its day the best food in Brighton. Good service and nice dining room. Only downside is it is maybe a 15 min walk from the centre of Brighton.

English's - If you want seafood I personally prefer this to Fishy Fishy. It is about 20meters from it. Good food served more traditionally. A Brighton institution.

Genghis Khan's Mongolian Barbeque \o/

Thanks, I'm trying to rack my brains to see if she likes fish.

Wow, thanks for taking the time to write that, looking through them now!

Havana seems wonderful, but bloody expensive! Made even more so by a 12% saturday service charge!

The meal I could live with, but the beverages are outrageous with prices going up to nearly a £1000 a bottle.

Might ring them up and cheekily ask if they do a student discount. :D

Jamie's Italian down Black Lion Street is worth a mention - bit marmite for some but essentially good food and flash enough for a date/dinner with the missus.

I took my lady to Ask on our first date - bit more mainstream but more upmarket than Donatello's. Personally thought Fat Leo's (owned by Donatello's) was dump.

If you are travelling further out, Chambers Bistro in Shoreham is very good.

Sounds good to me. They appear booked up on Saturday, but I'll give them a ring and see. Still tempted by Havana, but if Jamies is "flash" enough, then we could always try that, and leave Havana til a special occasion. hmm.

It's always pretty rammed at the weekend. I'd advise doing an early dinner and then that gives you the time to do other stuff after should you want to.

I've had a few issues with Havana - pretty rude staff and some snobbiness.

Apparently the Harvester isn't a good choice. She wasn't amused.

The one at the bottom of the A23 is one of the worst places to eat in Brighton.

Moshi Moshi? My wife keeps telling me how amazing the food is, but she is crazy about sushi.

I'll give Havana a miss then. We're just university students so don't need any snobbishness etc.

Speaking of which (:o), any ideas on what to do after a meal in Brighton that could be construed as being even slightly romantic? Got a few idea's but they're not really hitting the spot in my mind.

I've just booked Havana, any ideas on an hotel preferably with a hot tub or pool type bath, enough room for two and some champagne :)

I still owe you a drink for helping me. If I run into your fancy car, I'll buy and your missue a drink. :)
