never mists up (again) that way. Even without air con. On reflection, I'd actually loath to move away from a Ford (or any other manufacturers who offer models with electric heated windscreens) as I actually find it to be one of the most useful and convenient features of any car, to the point I'd say it should be standard on all cars.

I *think* they all do. You can sometimes see diesel fumes from the bottom front of the car beneath the sill. It's a seperate diesel powered heater

Fuel Fired heater or a PTC heater in the cabin? I'd be suprised if they all had fuel fired heaters! If they do they should all be equipped with remote cabin pre-heating.

I'm pretty sure it's fuel fired? They are made by Webasto and you can remote start them by getting hold of the remote kit (IIRC BMW only offered the remote feature in Europe, not the UK). I am 90% sure it was standard. I'll go and google it to make sure before somebody else does and proves me wrong..

Apparantly the E9x series has PTC elements for quick heating and webasto was probably an option. The later E60 though has no auxilary heating in the UK although the webasto was offered as an option in cold climates and PTC elements were fitted to the very early diesels. My car takes bang on 2 miles to start automatically heating the cabin with an outside temp of -1 degree.

I had a Webasto in a Rover 75 I owned briefly, with remote - toasty warm car and easy start every morning

Made a hell of a racket mind you, sounded like a model jet, and sometimes flamed out causing the entire street to disappear behind a cloud of smog
