OcUK MTB MEET GLENTRESS May 11th-13th

Another year so another trip is in order with a similar plan as last time... Most people arrived on the Friday last time to get a full weekend of riding.

Friday dependent on what time people arrive an afternoon on the Blue and bike park.

Saturday morning Glentress red then an afternoon of fun on the bike park, and to finish the day a curry.

Sunday most likely with a late start we head over to Innerleithen for the either red/black descent or a bit of off piste route to be decided!

Anyone planning to come for the whole weekend I recommend that you arrive on the Friday.

I propose we use the same accommodation as last time http://www.glentressforestlodges.co.uk/

Glentress Forest Lodge Wigwams are the ultimate in camping cabins, ideal low cost accommodation units, which offer comfortable outdoor living for up to 5 persons on the doorstep of Glentress Forest and a great alternative to camping under canvas.

I know it is a little premature but I think we should see what interest there is and get some numbers for the accommodation, if there is enough interest we may need two wigwams as last time.

So lets see a show of hands people :)

I may be up for it. Really depends on how much money I have though.

How much did it cost everyone roughly for those who did it last year?

I'd absolutely love to go, but I can't see how I'd get there? Sheffield > Scotland with no car or anything is gonna be tough, especially dragging my bike along. Also, I'd be no use if you want people that aren't totally out of shape, and bloody useless? :P

If I can figure a way around the first problem, and the second isn't a problem to you guys, I'd be up for it? haha

Im sure no one is fussed about fitness, im really unfit at the minute, uphill you go at the slowest speed.
I could possibly pick you up if i go im just over in Manchester. Would be good finally seeing all you guys.

Accommodation ends up about £15 per night. So all you need on top of that is some food money and travel expenses. If you're staying on site in a wigwam all you need is a sleeping bag and stuff to have a shower. The facilities are good and they have a cooker, gas hob, fridge and all the cooking shiz in the facilities building 30 secs walk away.

Seriously don't worry about fitness, the going is very much relaxed, we're there to have fun and speaking for me (and I'm sure IC will agree) we often happily push up some of the ups to save energy for the downhill bits.

Also random guy; you don't need a fancy bike, front suspension will make the going easier, a helmet is also a must, you should also have the minimum in tools and spares; multi tool, patch kit and innertubes. In terms of trails themselves, although we will be riding red and black stuff, most things have alternative routed around if you don't want to go off a drop or something.

Bare in mind that "the hub" has now closed and it's the Peel Centre across and up the road slightly that is the base for the showers/cafe etc- still only 2 mins from the wigwams mind you

If no one else in the shop has booked those days off id definetly be up for it and would pay a deposit to book all 3 days riding.

@booyaka - have you been in the new shop yet ?

yeah - popped in on monday - chatted to a couple of blokes - think you were working on a lynskey titanium bike at the time??

Nice looking shop - duly noted to pass time next time i'm that way over!

I'm seriously considering attending this, all 3 days, I've provisionally booked the time off work already. I'd probably come with a friend and share a lodge with him, just got to convince him to come along. Not sharing with you benders :p

I'll be there for both days. + 1 at the moment.

On the fitness side; The last GT meet I was at we split into 2 groups. The "I'm saving my energy for the downhill" group, and the "I'm not waiting for that fatty" group. So between us there will be a speed for everyone. :)

Worry not about the fitness, there's always a relaxed pace... none of us on our heavy full sus rigs are exactly speeding up the hills - especially not me if I bring the DH bike again :p (might not this time)

Count me in for the whole weekend - can't beat a bit of GT action!
