Hi,
After finally getting a working Antec 620 I'm getting rid of the stock fan as it is just too noisy. At the moment I'm looking to get a PWM fan as my mobo cannot control the speed of 3 pin fans (I can only set the fan speed to 50%, 75% and 100%). At the moment I'm looking at either the Noctua NF-F12 or the Akasa Apache Black.
Are there any other fans out there in that price range that people would recommend as I just can't decide what to get...

Thanks,

James

I use 2 vipers on my 620, in a push/pull setup.

Theirs nothing in it between GT 1850 and the Viper, temp wise I have tried them both. ;) And I went with the Vipers due to them being PWM fans.

I've heard a lot of good things about the Tpyoons, but they're only 3 pin and I'd prefer PWM.

I have both the apache and GT1450. I used to have the apache PWN on the ALC ECO, i took the jump and went with the gentle typhoons, at full tilt they are both quieter and cooler. So quiet in comparison that I now have then on full power all the time!

Are the differences between the Viper and Apache Black that noticeable as the the yellow blades won't look good in my case ;)
Is the Noctua F12 worth the extra money compared to the Apache Black?

The Vipers are the newer fan and have a higer fan speed 600 -1900 RPM, were the black Apache fan speeds are 600 -1300 RPM

I have no side window so don't care about the yellow fan :D

Ahhhhh I still can't decide. The GTs are so tempting, but I can't be bothered to keep manually changing the speed in speedfan or something. So if I get PWM I need to choose between the Viper, Apache and Noctua F12, which I still can't decide on.

Hmm, well if you can live with the Yellow of the vipers then according to manufacture specs, they have a slightly better static pressure (helps force air through the tight rad fins)

2.98mm H2O - http://www.akasa.co.uk/update.php?t...type=Fans&type_sub=PWM Control&model=AK-FN059
2.64mm H2O - http://www.akasa.co.uk/update.php?t...type=Fans&type_sub=PWM Control&model=AK-FN058
2.61mm H2O (1.83mm H2O with the low noise adapter) - http://www.noctua.at/main.php?show=productview&products_id=42&lng=en&set=1

But then the noise levels are different,

6.9 -28.9 dB - http://www.akasa.co.uk/update.php?t...type=Fans&type_sub=PWM Control&model=AK-FN059
6.9 -16.05 dB - http://www.akasa.co.uk/update.php?t...type=Fans&type_sub=PWM Control&model=AK-FN058
22.4 dB (18.6 with the adapter) - http://www.noctua.at/main.php?show=productview&products_id=42&lng=en&set=1

According to the above, the Apache fans offer the better "middle ground"

I think I'll probably go for the apache. I should be getting a Fractal R3 in the summer, so the Viper would look horrible in it :p
Thanks, for all the advice and suggestions!

From reading that thread and from trawling through other forums I think the GTs are definitely out of the equation. I hate the higher pitched whine you get from some fans and as the GTs seem to do this I think I'll steer clear. I'll probably order one Apache tomorrow and see what temps I get with that before I think about going with push/pull.

So it turns out one of my friends has 2 new apache's that he doesn't need, so he's letting me have them.
I take it I can plug the fans into a PWM Y splitter and plug that into the cpu fan header without blowing it? The fans are rated at 0.33A, so 0.66A for 2. I can't find any info about the power output for my mobo's cpu fan header (MSI P67A GD53 B3). Although I think most motherboards will not provide any less than 1A, so I should be fine.
Thanks, James
