My motherboard is on its last legs so I thought it was time for a newish system.

I need the case, mobo, cpu, ram, cooler and ssd. Coming from a q6600 overclocked to 3.6 with 4 gig of ddr2 800 and an ATI 5870. I also have a few spinpoint F1's I can reuse and an Antec Truepower 650.

I want to be able to overclock to 4.6 and so far the following is what I am looking at.

Corsair Vengeance Arctic White 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit

Asrock Z68 Extreme4 Gen3 Intel Z68 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard or
Asus P8Z68-V GEN3 Intel Z68 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard

Intel Core i5-2500K 3.30GHz (Sandybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor - Retail or
Intel Core i5-2550K 3.40GHz (Sandybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor - OEM
(I don't need intergrated graphics as I will reuse the 5870)

Crucial RealSSD M4 128GB 2.5" SATA 6Gb/s Solid State Hard Drive

Corsair Carbide 500R Midi Tower Case - Black/White

I haven't a clue what cooler to get yet and still aint 100 percent sure if I should wait for Ivy Bridge.

Can some of you lovely people please give me some help with this spec and point me to what the best things for me are or if I should wait.

Thanks very much

Spec looks good.

+1 for the i5 2500K.

Both motherboards are good, the Asrock is very popular with members here, can't go wrong with either I don't think.

As for the cooler, depends really on how much you'd like to push your overclocks.

Something like the Gelid Tranquillo will be good for anything upto around 4.5GHz but if you want higher then I'd go for the Thermalright Silver Arrow.

Wow.. Thanks for the fast reply.

I might SLI in future with another 5870 if I can pick one up cheap enough.

The white ram was only selected because someone told me that it had low voltage and was better for overclocking. I only want the ram to be able to do the 1600 speed tho and will only want to overclock the cpu to 4.6

I was looking to spend about 50 on the cooler.

I didn't mention that I had a gigabyte board last time and had lots of problems with it losing overclock if any usb devices were plugged in while powering up. It would also do a bios loop cycle regularly so I really wanted to avoid gigabyte if possible.

Go for the ASrock if you want a simple way to overclock using the Turbo50 function.

Thanks everyone once again. So now I have :

Corsair Carbide 500R Midi Tower Case
Crucial RealSSD M4 128GB 2.5" SATA 6Gb/s Solid State Hard Drive
Intel Core i5-2500K 3.30GHz (Sandybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor
Gelid Tranquillo CPU Cooler
Asrock Z68 Extreme4 Gen3 Intel Z68
Corsair XMS3 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit

Does this all look right to everyone?

No prob I can post some pics but my internal wiring has never been the cleanest of jobs.. There's normally cables running everywhere lol. That's why I picked a case with a solid side this time. My antec 900 looks awfull from the side ;)

How easy is it to get the cpu up to 4.6 in this bios. Is there anything I should be aware of like voltages etc?

The reason I ask is when I did a similar thing with my gigabyte and q6600 it was frying my ram because the voltages were on auto and upping the ram voltage the same time as the cpu got overclocked. Eventually after frying 3 lots I realized and set the memory voltage back down to normal manually..

Nothing like that with this board?

I'm back with another question sorry.

I was just about to order when I noticed that the ram that was suggested is 1.65 volts and I was informed that the lower the volts the better.

Corsair Vengeance 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit

This is on offer at the moment for the same price and is 1.5 volts. Would this be a better option for me or am I being misinformed?

Thanks once again
