Hey all,

I have a Macbook Pro (Early 2011) with 4GB of RAM, and I'm looking to upgrade to 8GB, but have no idea what to look for.

I'm also looking at the possibility of moving to an iMac when the next upgrade is available, so I'm hoping to be able to just move the 8GB of RAM over when I get it.

Any advice would be great thanks :)

Any decent branded DDR3 SODIMM will do the trick. Just make sure its

a) 204pin (laptop) RAM not 240pin desktop RAM
b) 1333MHz
c) no heatsink/spreaders

And it will be a simple switch to an iMac should you choose to upgrade as they also use laptop ram.

Excellent that's good to know :)

Hopefully you haven't bought it yet because as preparing to buy mine I found you can get 5% off with coupon code BOOKFIVE, and a further 7% off at QuidCo!! :)

Crucial in all mine - same between the early/late 2011 MBP and the 2011 iMacs too. Easy to swap between them.

Wow thanks for that! I'm going to buy some now! I have the same Mac as you funnily enough :D.

I bet it is :D

Noticed any heat increase since getting the SSD? What did you replace?

I had the standard 750GB hard drive that it came with installed. I haven't experienced any heat increase. I haven't looked at temperature stats at all, so can't compare it, but I haven't felt it getting hotter than normal yet...
