Took the 911 on the once a month commute today 210 miles from Essex to Northampton and back, now everywhere I read basically tells me that the car will do 25mpg. Some places quote 16-17 around town and 25 on the motorway other places like parkers just quote 23mpg, had a quick look through the book and cant seem to find the figures.

My commute consisted of a mixture of B road blasts, A road and motorway cruising and a good few miles of stop start traffic, I put £55 in the car for the journey which put me at mid way between half and 3/4 of a tank and have just under quarter of a tank left now I am home.

I reset the trip computer when I filled up and according to that I averaged 32.1 mpg.

So my conclusion is that either the car is broken or that I must be doing it wrong.

Opinions?

Impressive , i cant get above 29-30 mpg in my Mk3.5 Mazda MX5 (Hardtop) 2.0 Sport

I was thinking the same, but at the moment I am not sure that the readings are right or if that trip computer is way off?

hmm looking at that picture the fuel light is on as well. That was after turning off and putting the ignition ignition on again to get the pic. Cant remember if fuel raises after you start the engine. Gonna go down and see.

Edit: Jesus it's cold out there, but sure enough start the ignition and I have just under 1/4 of a tank.

May well be in the right ballpark - I've squeezed over and around 30mpg out of some high performance cars before :)

Brim to brim is the only way to check it accurately, though.

Impressive stuff, problem is normally the car is used at the weekends around town and country b roads, this would no doubt massively skew these 'Medium/Long distance slog with a little fun' figures. Even around town my figures are high It always seems to read 25+

Am starting to think that the fuel gauge and computer are lying to me. I guess Ill have to brim it and find out.
