Hi All,

Taking my car into the garage early next week as I have noticed this problem the last two times I have driven it.

Whenever I get above 65 - 70 mph on the motorway, the steering column starts to give of a pretty loud rattle. The handling or the like isn't affected, it almost sounds like there is something loose somewhere that is moving about.
The same sound is also appearing when breaking down from 35 - 40mph to around 10 to go on a roundabout or the like.

The car is an 05 Plate Toyota Avensis, and I am really just looking for a heads up of what it could / couldn't before it goes in.

Cheers,
Blair

My brother in law had a similar thing turned out to be one of the tires had a slight bubble in it?

Wheel balancing or a dodgy tire?

Well that's always the first guess for a wobble at cruising speed, but I dont think he'd get the same under braking at low speed if it was only wheel balance. Hence I'm going for hub or bearing. I'd put 50p on it :)

Any idea of cost if it is the hub or bearing? A fair bit more than the 50p you are betting i'd guess!
