New Desk, now i need a chair, any recommendations

What price spine?

To be fair, not everyone spends as long as I do in front of a computer (> 8 hours a day). Sitting is a very unnatural position, especially for the lengths of time we all do, and a £1000 chair will pay for itself if it mitigates against back problems later in my life.

I've used the Ikea Markus about for ~2 years and I am already starting to feel issues at the ripe old age of 23.

Yea, just picked up an Herman Miller myself and agree.. a day in and it's already worlds apart from my old £40 one.

Thinking of getting this personally -

Went to Staples to see what was there and narrowed it down to the Kashmir and this one. Edged towards this one because it looks nicer, easier to slouch in, and while the Kashmir is slightly more comfy, I get the feeling that it's not particularly good for the back because there's very little firmness.

Stupidly, I waited too long and where the Kashmir was earlier around 200 and this one about 130, prices seem to have reversed >_< Waiting to see if it goes down post-christmas but doesn't look like it :(

Sudden,

Those padded sofa-chairs really aren't good for your back..

Maybe, but still seems to be better than the Kashmir which has almost no support :p

Willing to look at others, but budget is around £250 max. Comfort is important as I spend a fair bit of time in the chair.

Oh and also what Reaper said :D

Second hand Herman Miller Aeron (warranty lasts for 12 years)?

Hah! Turns out that's what i'm sitting in right now. Going by the picture at least.
All the office chairs seem to be this one.

It is pretty comfy, but I like having that big back which I can rest my head against :)

Ikea Markus?

Yea, that's another one I wanted to try out. I don't like the look of it, but everyone on here raves about the Kashmir and the Markus. Just the pain of actually going to Ikea has put me off it. Staples was enough of a trek.

I really should go and try that as well, but would it really be that significantly better than the Mayfair?

Having used it for two years, I'd say yes. It is vastly better than the padded ones (balances comfort (hammock-like) and ergonomics) and lasts longer (Kashmir padding flattens before long).

Are there any cheaper chairs around similar to the Herman Miller Aeron, as in, mesh base and back?
Yes, the Ikea Markus is in my opinion the closest non-designer thing. It's about £120 and worth every penny.

Herman Miller Aeron can be had second hand on Gumtree for £200 though, and each has a twelve year warranty. That's also worth more than every penny.

Ikea Markus has a leather base I believe?

May look into a second hand Aeron, but not too sure about that...

For those with leathery or even faux leathery goodness on their chairs I highly recommend spending £10 on Zaino Z10 which is a leather cream for cars but of course who says it's only limited to cars? :p

Anyway, Z10 has such an amazing smell that it keeps your car smelling like the leather is brand new and from some high end cow or something (:p).

Seriously good stuff and when used on your office chair it makes the whole room and house, if doors are open, smell sublime, no need for air fresheners.

It also stops slippery leather chairs from being slippery and gives shiny leather a matte look and feel.
