EDF energy small direct debit error

Assuming a lender marks on a miss payment and knowing are two very different things. my replys were based on fact given my own experience yours were based on supposed expectation.

call it what you like chap, you don't have a clue and neither do I as to the actual status of the OP's credit rating

make that a ludicrous argument

The credit rating or credit status of the op is irrelevant. What is relevant is he stated that he missed payments as a result. EDF paying admin fees etc is not his worst worry; his worst worry is that those missed payments will flag on his credit report. That is standard.

assumption is the mother of all muck ups :)

FTR and sorry if you missed it, BUT THE SAME HAPPENED TO ME AND I SUFFERED NO BAD MARKS ON MY CREDIT RATING, sorry if that was difficult to understand or easy to miss :p

He's right. If the payments bounced they will be (automatically) reported as missed payments when account information is updated to Experian etc. This is normal practice.

I'm not sure this is 100% true. I recently missed a mortgage payment over the festive period as I messed up with all the bank holidays etc and the money didn't get into the account in time. I phoned them and paid it off the next day. I was concerned about it showing up as a missed payment but they (Nationwide) said nothing goes on your credit report unless you don't pay within the month

this is seriously shocking news....... :p

It's at the discretion of the lender. My girlfriend had a final bill of £3 or something to pay for Orange and paid it a day late. Showed up as late.

Regardless the advice still stands; he should check to make sure none of the companies (his mortgage company and any other credit related companies) show a late payment. I don't get why this is contentious?

By virtue of the fact that both of you (Will Gill and mpledge52) checked them then why is it a bone of contention??

because the "lender" has covered all costs and as a result all bounced payments will be duely honoured,

your 'gf' had a late bill of £3? what was it for fish and chips? pardon me for being assumptive and not actually furnished with any of the true facts :p

See above...I don't get what is so contentious for him to check his credit record?! You clearly did after your incident and it showed no late payment flags..why should he not bother checking? It's good diligence for anyone to do.

It was because she ended contract at the start of the billing cycle. Not all lenders are lenient and give you a window to pay due bills...

the miss-information in GD is legendary, you just added to it

I'm not entirely sure what that proves other than the standard classifications of late or missed payments, are you about to assume the OP has any/some/one of these?

give up chap please, it's 9pm on a friday night :D

I arrive into kings cross shortly, I hope you can equally go out and multiple accordingly :)

He should check to make sure, do not know why this is an issue...

Sadly not as exciting, waiting for girlfriend to come home then off to Waitrose :o

finally, I never disagreed with you on that, it was the whole-

"omg they bounced your payments you credit rating is FUBAR with 100% certainty"

- that i never agreed with, which was so far from the truth, especially given the compensation offered by EDF.

I'm the first to hit on the man but not when they go out of their way to make up for their mistaked :)

It's an accounting error they offered a refund including costs to the OP, same as they did for me, its over, build a birdge a bridge and get over it,I did and im happy, sure it's a fair amount of cash but they reverted their charges immediately so it's a non event :)

Yep, saw it was quickly rectified but personally it'd be brown pants time if I checked my account and saw that! :D

edf keep giving me money so quite happy. They reunded me a full years electricity as they had screwed the meter readings.
they lowered my electricity to around £7-12 a month and i got a letter saying theyre refuning £190 which is more than a years worth. Maybe the engineer who takes the meter readings is blind...
