Turns out I've snapped a spoke! Standing outside work freezing waiting for a lift home :( Any one have a clue how much a spoke/wheel rebuild costs?

If only one spoke has snapped, it shouldn't cost more than a few quid to get it replaced. Usually very quick and easy to do. They may or may not charge for another wheel true.

Thanks guys, it's still very affordable compared to other hobbies then!

Is it worth learning how to true and build wheels yourself or is it a false economy after buying the necessary tools and time it takes to do?

My lbs charges a few pence for a new spoke + £10 to true the wheel.

You could try doing it yourself, as long as the wheel was true beforehand, then it's quite easy because you only have to get the tension right on one spoke. Make sure you dont do anything to any of the others tho.

It's definitely worth learning how to true as you can even use your brake blocks as a gauge for basic truing. That can be helpful if you're miles from a bike shop. All you need is a spoke key which is only a few quid and it's nice to have in the toolbag. I carry this one around with me:

Whilst it's nice learning how to build a wheel from scratch, it's much better to have a truing stand and it takes a lot of practice before you can do it like an expert!! There are guides out there to build your own truing stand for not much cost.

I need some 700x23 tyres for all year use, preferably cheap, can somebody point me in the right direction, please? I also need 2 spare inner tubes, so any help on them is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Edit: I was thinking that these would do the trick: Continental Ultra Sport

Those Contis came on my Boardman and I've had no trouble at all from them. I'd buy them again quite happily.

Finally got this built today but need to get the measurements from his current bike and maybe swap the stem for a longer one.

Hope the guy is happy with it and it brings him luck.

Got myself a new mech in today so I hope to be back on the bike by next week and stop being a lazy ****! It's gonna hurt like hell after this long.

looks nice jonny, we sold a lynskey helix full build last night with zipp 303s etc so i ll fire up some progress pics during the build. just waiting on forks so we can make a start.

What shop do yo work in ?

Just back from the bike shop, very impressed with them! It cost £10 labour and 60p for the new spoke and beat of all they did it all within an hour of dropping off the wheel and sent me a text when done.
