It still boggles the mind that Bioware never used the Unreal 3 engine, the engine was already established by the time they got started on SWTOR and it's actually very efficient.
I remember playing UT3 with a 3970 without any problems.
It still boggles the mind that Bioware licensed an severly unfinished engine, despite the protests of the engine developers and their own engineers.
In hindsight, the engine choice would have been great. IF, they didn't heavily modify it so much. The current version of Hero Engine is actually very good and features some good stuff like full DX11 support, built in Physx vastly improved particle effects and far better performance inprovements.
It's all down to Bioware top brass, thinking it was a great idea to cutom finish the engine, and by doing that not be able to recieve Engine updates and performance increases from the Hero Engine devs.
If you follow some of the updates and features of the Hero Engine currently out, it's actually very impressive for an Engine designed for MMO creation.
Despite all this, I really enjoy the game.
I have Hope, Bioware can sort out the pressing issues with the Engine. Which affects, visiuals, performance and ability delay.
Once those three are fixed, they only need to worry about content and bug fixing, along with extra improvements.
