*****Official Star Wars: The Old Republic Thread*****

Posters that hang around threads and post constant negativity are a problem on all forums. Just ignore it. I used to have a similar hate filled attitude when I was a teenager, I'd go out of my way to let people know how much I disliked something, thankfully I grew up a little bit and can happily moan once or twice about something and never get involved again.

after trying the tera beta I have to say the engine for this is really bad , tera has insanely good graphics and runs soo much beter with very little loading times compared to starwars

I think this is fitting for some people... :D

Not defending BioWare here, but doesn't TERA use the UE3 engine and already been out in Korea for just over a year?

My questions were stupid because I don't study the world of SWTOR before a release and unfortunately I didn't have the time to research every aspect of the game? Great contribution there mate.

Not fanning the flames here or anything but i have to ask why would anyone pay a monthly sub to a game they didnt research in the first place?

Besides every game has issues of one sort or another on release. seems to be just the way it is in the wacky world of pc gaming :)

Yup, by the time it releases in the west it'll already be around 18 months old.

Hasn't been launched in Asia yet has it?

Don't think so, has an Oceanic launch coming in March or so but not seen any mention of Asia.

It still boggles the mind that Bioware never used the Unreal 3 engine, the engine was already established by the time they got started on SWTOR and it's actually very efficient.

I remember playing UT3 with a 3970 without any problems.

It still boggles the mind that Bioware licensed an severly unfinished engine, despite the protests of the engine developers and their own engineers.

In hindsight, the engine choice would have been great. IF, they didn't heavily modify it so much. The current version of Hero Engine is actually very good and features some good stuff like full DX11 support, built in Physx vastly improved particle effects and far better performance inprovements.

It's all down to Bioware top brass, thinking it was a great idea to cutom finish the engine, and by doing that not be able to recieve Engine updates and performance increases from the Hero Engine devs.

If you follow some of the updates and features of the Hero Engine currently out, it's actually very impressive for an Engine designed for MMO creation.

Despite all this, I really enjoy the game.
I have Hope, Bioware can sort out the pressing issues with the Engine. Which affects, visiuals, performance and ability delay.
Once those three are fixed, they only need to worry about content and bug fixing, along with extra improvements. :)

Bought the game yesterday, managed to sort out my character but when I press play to go into the game world I get a BSOD everytime. It is ATIKMDAG with a page fault. I never have any crashes on this system and play a varied selection of games. Anyone else had BSOD issues?

Got really bored with SWTOR :(
Was looking forwadrs to it as well, managed to avoid all the Alpha/Beta stuff and weaited until early access to start.

Still level 45, not even got the interest to hit max level, playing my usual class, tank.
Added a 2month timecard at release and have a further 2 timecards waiting here, dont even know wether top use them :(

Just saw above cross realm PvP on Queueable WZ's, as much as I try and refrain from things like this seems very WoW like, didnt wow only do this a fair way down the line after release? and wasnt it due to some problems or another?

How are otehrs finding the Sith Juggernaut class?
Did I just chose the wrong char is it REALLY this boring?
I hear Powertech is meant to be really good fun? comments?

Finally settled on a Merc for my ToR fun (worked out quite nicely as the static group I roll with all settled on chars to fill a group out - Jugger, Inq and Op). Hit level 20 whilst on Balmora and still loving the game (am I allowed to say that? :D).

Does anyone know if there are plans to expand on the Dark/Light side elements of conversations to make your choice meaningful? That's pretty much my only gripe so far.

If you could list either the MMO's that use the Hero Engine or any triple AA titles in dev that will use it that would be good. I often see on here people moan about BW's modifications whilst praising the current version of it to the heavens, but I'm unaware of any title using it.

Did seem rather choppy last night, but that was possibly my fault as I had everything rammed up, nice seeing grass blow in the wind though :)

Well it's plain facts. There are no other titles using it yet, as the Engine is only barely finished now.

The developers haven't even finished their own game using the engine yet to Demo the engine.

The facts, are Bioware took an unfinished engine, missing vast parts of it's code, for perfomance, graphics and more. Then lacks the abilities to properly finish it. The game can't even truly support multi-threading without the use of two SWTOR.exes communicating.

Like I said though, I have hope that Bioware can polish the engine and game.
Despite the parts it lack, I still enjoy the game.

Excellent post

Look at the post from one of the Hero Devs!: http://www.heroengine.com/2011/12/swtor-is-live/

Another article talking about the Hero Engine as unfinished when BW licensed it. http://www.heroengine.com/2011/11/heroengine-meets-starwars/

While im very critical of the game performance i love the game,i just hope BW can sort out the performance issues soon,if they can that is.

Anybody else (after playing many alts) thinks the Jugger/Guardian is a bit naff at low levels - I've got a 50 jugger so I know full well they are fine at max level - but as I level'd him as my main, I didn't suffer from fighting against L40's at L15 (so the problem went un-noticed, also everybody was new to the game at that point so warzones were easy.

Why do the JK/SW not get a stun until 24 - and a channelled one at that?.

Smugg/agent/Consular/Inquisitor = L4 stun.
Trooper/Bounty Hunter = L12 stun.

All classes get knock-backs by L16 (iirc) apart from the vanguard/powertech, but they get pull at 22 + stun at 12.

What's the reason for not getting choke/stasis/forcepush until late 20's when the rest of the classes have some hard/soft CC well before them.

At L20 it's currently impossible to kill a healer, as I have one interrupt - every single other class has an interrupt and a stun - allowing them to stop 3 heals in a row against a healer (interrupt -> stun -> interrupt) JK's & SW's get this ability stupidly late.

I can also pull 250k damage on every single other damage dps spec class at around L12/14 easily - but struggle with around 150k on my DPS spec guardian.

I know it doesn't take an age to level to 26 odd, but as somebody who has done the first few areas too many times, PVP is a great way to level - but it's very offputting being so gimped.

I only have interupt+force choke atm, also don't have a knock back as Marauder. It's like the most powerful ability in Huttball and I picked the class that doesnt have it :(
