European working directive, can the force you to opt out?

The program director sounds like he needs a kick in the nuts!

Crazyness to treat a woman with breast cancer like that, especially in the health profession.

Tabloids.

Make sure you follow through doing whatever you can to make the ******** life harder, that is simply disgusting.

This is very common in the NHS, however I suggest that your wife works without oncalls and gets OH to back this, that way she will "only" be working 9-5 (haha) and not get the nights/weekends etc.

This is completely feasable as my wife is currently doing the same. Best of luck.

To be fair that's probbably why he's treating her like that, he probbably sees people dying daily.

First and foremost, I am glad that your wife has decided to become a GP and that she loves her job - all credit to her and long may her enthusiasm and commitment last. You undoubtedly know already just how important YOUR support is to her in what will always be a very stressful and sometimes distressing vocation.

Secondly, it sounds as if the breast cancer was spotted at an early stage and hopefully she had a lumpectomy rather than mastectomy and is now doing well and will never suffer a recurrence.

As to your question, as a qualified Doctor, I would assume that your wife pays into the MDU or MPS?

Surely whichever medical defence organisation is involved would be the best place to go for advice?

Good luck to both of you.

Thanks for the support people. Stockhausen she is a member of MPS and I have told her that she should get them involved.

To be honest she should have never been placed in A&E as she has already done 4 months in her F2 years.

As you say we found it at stage 2A so only need to do a lumpectomy with prophylactic radiotherapy so she should be fine. It's just that the radio has made her very very tired and its hard for her to get through a full day but that should get better over the next 4 to 6 weeks.

Don't let the (illegitimate child)s grind you down :)

Thats what Sir Ranulph Fiennes wrote in my signed copy of his book when I was bogged down with work, although it actually had the word for an illegitimate child ofc!

I would definately get onto MPS and MDU and ask for their advice. Remember that an A&E rotation is one that has to be done I believe as one of the three hospital rotations during GP training so she may not get out of it completely. You could get onto the programme director and ask whether she could do one of the other rotations first and delay the A&E rotation until later and even maybe after her GP placements (unlikely though). So I'm pretty sure she still has to do another GP placement as a GP VTS.

The occupational health department should be supporting her but it sounds like it the programme director which is being a ****. Get on to the deanery lead (unless the programme director and they are one and the same).

Also she should have a GP trainee representative within her hospital. The deanery has a meeting with various representitives every month so perhaps this could be bought up there.

If she's a member of the BMA, they will advise regarding EWDT.

Hope she makes a full recovery. :)

In this case there is very little more to the story, the PD has a reputation of being like this, my wife has the support of everyone she works with and has performed very well over the last 18 months. She loves her job more then anything else.

I think this is likely the issue
Black hearted bitch enjoying her position of power.
Take it directly to the dean of medicine, and explain everything, dates etc as you have to us.
Askmthem how they are going to facilitate her.

She will have to do a&e but i'd have thought they could rotate her to psych or something first to limit the overtime and cover needed.

isn't that from porridge?

Firstly, I hope your wife has a speedy recovery. And her PD sounds like a ****.

She needs to file a grievance with HR. I'd I'll also suggest that, apart from being in a high stress environment will not be good for her and help her make a speedy recovery, I'd say it is likely to be dangerous and could result in affecting the health care of her patients.
