Hi all,

first post so please be gentle.

My Spec so far
Asus SABERTOOTH P67 R3 P67 Socket 1155 Motherboard
i7 2600K CPU
Corsair 120GB Force 3 SSD
OCZ ZX Series 850W 80+ GOLD PSU
8GB 1333Mhz Kingston RAM (just budget stuff for now)
Thermaltake Level 10 GT Full Tower Case

Really all i want is to be able to output the video for now. should i just buy a really cheap card for now? like even say £20 just so i can? If im right the motherboard im getting doesn't have even a VGA onboard?

sorry i still learning (very slowly)

I wont be bothered about performance for now, as long as i have a working system. Then 3 weeks/4weeks later can spend £300 - £400 on a card. like wise i intend to upgrade my RAM, but for the moment i have a usable system.

hope you can understand what I'm trying to do

Hi, welcome to the forums :)

You are correct in thinking that there is no onboard display with that mobo, so if you want/need to use the PC straight away, then getting a cheap card would be a good idea. However, if you don't want/need to use it immediately, then you may as well wait until you have the cash to splash on the right card.

On a side note, there is no point changing the RAM you have for two reasons:

1. Kingston make some exceptionally good RAM (arguably better than Corsair in some cases).

2. RAM speed makes no real difference to the performance of the PC and 8GB is plenty.

Hope this helps :)

Hi Penguin, thanks for your reply.

Thanks, glad to be assured :) cant wait for it to be shipped - everything else is here lol

Ah thanks for the heads up, Will just stick with the RAM then :) no point spending when not needed

Any budget graphics cards with VGA / DVI output you would reccomend please? I literally need to use this ASAP, having to use a netbook atm and rapidly loosing my patience with them little Atom processors

Get a Z68 mobo and you will have onboard graphics. When you add a dedicated GPU the lucid virtu feature will allow you to make clever use of the IGP :)

Aah comon, lucid virtu (apart from quicksync) is litlle but a gimmick ;) But yes, if one needs integrated video, Z68 has decent one by integrated vid standards. But those standards are pretty low;)

As all the OP currently needs is a display output a Z68 motherboard that can use the integrated GPU would have been perfect.

They don't need it to be all singing, all dancing ;)

If you're stuck with the P67 board then just get something like these:

MSI GeForce N210 1024MB GDDR3 "Low Profile" PCI-Express Graphics Card £21.59 until Wednesday morning

ATI Radeon HD 5450 SILENT 512MB GDDR3 PCI-Express Graphics Card £21.59 until Wednesday morning

Thanks for all your replies.

I'm not necessarily stuck with P67 board. I could return it/cancel the order before its shipped.

what about this mobo instead?

Surely that has everything the sabertooth P67 has if not more?

Like I said, I just need a usable system for now. Then a month down the line I'll spend some decent money on a nice graphics card to match the rest of my system : )

That mobo looks good, though you might be able to get a bit more for your money, stick a spec me thread somewhere (either general hardware or motherboards) and someone will be able to give some better advice :)

Since you're looking for a "non gaming" solution, you do not need 160£ mobo imho. Get a Gygabyte Z68ap-D3 - £80, and it should be plenty for your needs. Even if you need overclocking your CPU, its good up to 4.5Ghz. Sandy Bridge integrated video is the same on all motherboards, no need to pay more.

He said he'd like DVI and VGA outputs.

Buying a motherboard with them will be easier than messing around with the HDMI connector on that motherboard.

But for that 80£ difference he may as well get a full video card with DVI and VGA! Or a HDMI-DVI connector that costs about a fiver:)

He doesn't have to spend an extra £80 to get DVI and VGA connectors.

You can get a Z68 motherboard for £5 more which has them already and saves messing about with adapters ;)

Touche:D I got too hang up on this AP-D3 board which *is* fantastic value for money.
