i need to buy two 120mm case fans, id like them to be as quiet as possible but without sacrificing air flow, im going to get an antec nine hundred v3, and i figured i might aswell add the extra fans sometime in the future, but id like some advice on which ones people would recommend

Vipers do a good job for me but have not tried anything else as a comparison. They provide good cooling and are not too loud unless you crank them right up.

This is true, I have 6 vipers. The 'Hoover' I was referring to was the Scythe Kaze Jyuni 1900RPM Slip Stream in the 2nd post.

lol I can put up with the extra noise from my jyuni's. Didn't see the point in paying more for the vipers when they don't shift as much air. And the static pressure of both are really good anyway.

I see your point i haven't used them personally was just going by the specs. My original antec fans on my 920 could suck in a small dog from 10 ft away but they had a very high pitch whine, really annoying so went for the vipers.

Just installed 3 x 120mm Scythe Kaze Jyuni 1900rpm and 1 x 140mm Viper. My case now sounds like a wind tunnel. Temps have dropped considerably though.

Apaches probably offer the best noise to cfm ratio, vipers are quite loud at full speed. The new spectre pro fans offer a pretty decent noise to cfm ratio too.

Wow thats is loud. I think the standard test is from 1.5 meters away.

85 dB 8-hour period
85 - 90 dB 2-hour period
90 - 100 dB 1 to 2-hour period
100 - 110 between 2 and 15 minutes
110 - 120 less than 30 seconds
130 dB ANY EXPOSURE WILL RESULT IN PERMANENT HEARING LOSS
You'll be be ok:D

I thought Apache and Viper are the same fan but in different colours.

Essentially they are the same fan, but the Apache runs at a much lower rpm resulting in less noise but retaining a quite respectable cfm.

Anything over 85db(a) I'm pretty sure you are required to wear hearing protection :D
