6950 to 580?

I mean is the different because my 1gb 6950 and the 1.5gb overclocked 580 going to make a lot of difference? :D
It will be faster...but not earth shatteringly. Generally 7950 3GB is a bit faster than GTX580 1.5GB for around the same price, but because of its poor MSAA performance with Frostbite2 engine (huge performance hit with MSAA application), it is actually slower than the GTX580 on BF3 (unless you are not using MSAA).

I would say it's probably best to wait till Nvidia to release their new gen cards...most people are hoping that GTX660 would be around same performance as GTX580, but with lower power consumption and heat, and at a lower price point.

Its strange time to upgrade a 6950 to 580 imho. Your card is good, Kepler is close- price drops are close a consequence. Are you that desperate for 16AA at 60fps?;)

Each to their own of course, but I don't understand the usual must have for '60fps' that I see so often on the forum.

While I don't think it's realistic to expect constant 60fps in all games, but for playing BF3 online, it does provide competitive edge with fps constantly staying at 40fps+ without dips to below that into the 30s.

Personally I say for online play on BF3, people with a single GPU card should probably just forget about Ultra and play on High with 2x/4xMS AA to keep good balance between quality and performance.

Ah ok thanks Marine I'll just do that :) Besides the difference between Ultra and high is minimal but it's just something you can turn around and say BF3 ULTRA! ;D

Can't play BF3 at the moment anyhow EA account was banned...

As well as personal preference it depends how you play the game. If you like the up close Rambo approach 60 fps + is useful. If all you do is snipe lower fps is fine. As the other poster said it is the minimum fps that counts. I have an unlocked overclocked 6950 running at 6970 speeds and play at 1080p on medium / high settings to keep fps at a minimum of mid 50 fps. Most of the time it is well above this.

:D
