Hi all,

I'm aware that on the 9th Feb the new 1.4 update for Skyrim was released on Xbox Live.

I'm thinking about buying Skyrim for the Xbox 360 at the end of the month. My net is down as I'm moving house, can I install the 1.4 patch offline in anyway?

Has anyone here installed the 1.4 patch? I know that 1.2 fscked up alotta stuff, how's 1.4 working out so far?

Cheers,

Sirius

I had the patch installed on Saturday when I played it. Seemed to work out fine, however I also spent about 16 hours on the previous version and didn't have any issues.

I've put over 50 hours into 1.2 and didn't have an issue - haven't played since the new patch so can't really comment on that.

Not sure about downloading patches offline though.

yep you can get the "title updates" or "TU" offline and put them on your xbox.

Unfortunately actually discussing how to do it though is a no no on these forums.

Ah, that's annoying... I have Skyrim now, God it makes alotta noise when not installed onto HDD!!!

But I don't want to install it because of the caching/texture issues...

Does anyone know when 1.5 is going to be released? I heard it came out on PC with errors and was rolled back but it also has a fix that I need (A Cornered Rat following on from Diplomatic Immunity), the inability to progress in that game by that bug has been an issue since 1.2, so I've been waiting a while!

Wow, I'm glad you said that, I currently have a quest marker for diplomatic immunity.

Is the bug game stopping?

Might have to hold off playing until it's fixed.

There's a few bugs around these two quests, definitely read up in the Skyrim Wiki, if you're not careful it can end your game. In my case the main quest line disappeared completely (no "A Cornered Rat") which made any progression impossible.

See below

Bugs

Quest preparation & completion

  1. Some players, upon completion of Diplomatic Immunity, do not receive the quest, A Cornered Rat, and cannot progress the main questline. Affiliation with the Thieves Guild is speculated as being an issue, but is not confirmed, as some other players affiliated with the Guild don't have the issue.
  2. 360 If you've discovered the embassy before the quest, it may not count towards the "Explorer"Achievement.
  3. Giving and getting back items glitchesEdit
  4. After speaking to Delphine before riding to the embassy, you will be frozen in one spot, unable to move or use items or skills. Also, the game may crash when retreiving your items in Riverwood with the "Take All" command. This can be solved by emptying your inventory as much as possible into a safe house chest after speaking to Malborn.
  5. People who have downloaded the game on Mac through a port may find that they cannot retrieve ANY gear at all from Delphine upon completion of this quest, so put it in a chest in your home.
  6. It is advised to not give money to any companion before attempting the quest as all but 1500 of it may be gone.
  7. If you give amethysts to Delphine and after the quest you retrieve them, they may become stolen.
  8. If you have Dead Thralls when you are transported to the Thalmor Embassy, they may disappear.
  9. Some items may not be returned by Malborn or Delphine. These include: Stolen gold, Dragon Masks, some heavy armor, the weapon Chillrend, and Ancient Shrouded gear. Any unique Items are considered to be at risk. There is no known fix for this.

Glitches during the quest

  • The chest where you retreive your items may not have your items as the door leading into the room may glitch making Malborn unable to lock the door. Even restarting the quest may not help it.
  • Sometimes Malborn spawns and appears on the map to be halfway between Ilinalta's Deep and Fort Greymoor. Since you can't continue the quest line or leave the party, the only option load a previous save point. It is possible to physically wait, with the game unpaused, until he makes his way to the Embassy. (Timing may vary.) The reason for this glitch is unknown, though it may be caused by having a companion or follower with you.
  • Sometimes upon entering the Embassy NPCs will not appear. It is also possible that the NPC's appear, but slide around instead of walking. Either way, Malborn cannot open the door and you must restart.
  • Sometimes upon clearing the dungeon in the Embassy, regardless of dialogue options with the prisoner, the event with Malborn and the soldiers entering the dungeon will not occur, and the quest will not continue.
  • This may not actually be a glitch, it could be caused by not reading the books required.
  • After grabbing your equipment and going upstairs, attempting to backstab the magician may render you into the wall. (Untested, happened once)
  • If the Dragonborn is a high elf, your character can shrink and will remain shrunk for some period of time, reload on the auto save after coming through the door to correct the issue.
  • Upon speaking to the prisoner he may glitch into the wall, if so he will do this no matter what you say to him.
  • Sometimes the guards will only say "speak quickly" and will not take your invitations or let you in.
  • If a dragon attacks while you talk to Delphine at the stables, she will attack the dragon and leave you helpless not being able to move or talk to anyone

It's probably best to make sure you're not going to do anything that will kill the game at that point by checking out the bugs section (at the bottom) for that quest.

Hmmmmm, I am leader of the thieves guild, so probably best I just give it a wide birth for now.

Give it a shot, worst case scenario you have to wait for the patch which fixes it (already announced), so you either wait for the patch and be sure or play it and if it isn't okay you're waiting for the patch anyway. Hopefully it works okay for you :).

I'm worried now. lol. Will most definately be doing the 2 saves technique once I start thieves guild quests. I havent touched the main storyline really.

Level 30, and I havent even triggered Dragons spawning. :p

And as far as I'm aware with the PC patch, it was just a beta release. Available to those who ticked beta participation. So if that's been rolled back, no doubt it will be some time before we see it. As we wont get it till its officially released on PC, Outside beta.

Going into a game like Skyrim with only one save is suicidal anyway, always new saves, and delete from the bottom up after a healthy amount (but not too many as it will slow the games loading times down.)

Yeah, for the most part I haven't missed some of the opinions of the clueless, but I do miss quite a number of its users. Figured I'd say hi! :)

Argh, even the bad talk of skyrim is drawing me in :(

Might boot it up tonight and start again (lost my 100+ hour save)

Wonder how well Skyrim runs and looks on the PS3 now with the updates. Still it may be worth me getting it on Steam for Windows. The problem with that is. No trophies. :D
