My logitech Z2100 2.1 speakers have an issue with the controller where they have a lot of static build up when I turn them on and it takes a few minutes for this to disappear. Its been like this for around 2 years now, if not longer, yet now I'm starting to also hear static in games as well when things are quiet. I use onboard sound at the moment on my asrock mobo, which isn't bad, but does suffer massively from whitenoise on my headphones when plugged in via the front panel. I had to buy a cheap cable to lower the audio quality to get rid of this noise, which isn't exactly the worlds best fix is it lol.

Probably gonna need a soundcard, PCIe only (it'll sit above GPU1 whilst a pipe blocks my PCI port under GPU2), then also a new set of 2.1 speakers. I'm use to good bass quality and rather sharp audio, so I wish to continue this with the upgrade.

Now, is this possible for around £200 tops?

its not on the blink, its just some psu's cause the noise with the intel power saving, try turning off intel speedstep in bios or c1e,eist and c3/c6 states, see if noise goes away if not then changing the psu for another brand might stop the noise,i can tell you now that adding in a soundcard wont stop the noise, ive been through all this years ago and only changing the psu stopped it

just google motherboard squeal and youll see how common it is

I've got speedstep enabled but none of the Cx states. I'll look into it and get back to you. I'd rather not change the PSU as its a very expensive piece of kit and I only notice the noise with headphones, not through speakers.

I know what you mean, try moving the front audio cable up and away from the graphic card inside pc case, the cable that connects from front panel headphone to mb

It can be because of tri sli too, both psu and gpu can emit electromagnetic fields and its this noise that your hearing,I'm just trying to give you some idea of the cause, some psu's and gpu's are better shielded than others for emi

Got the same problem with onboard sound. I was hearing static and some crackling noise. Sometimes even when using scroll wheel. I bought new soundcard and don't have any unwanted noises anymore. As for the speakers I can recommend Edifier's S730. I think you could get them for around 200 quid. That's a lot of speakers for the price. Sub is massive but not overpowering if you don't want to. Satellites are actually small bookshelfs speakers. Great build quality.

Thanks I'll have a look around for them and read some reviews.

Still looking at which soundcard and speakers combo to actually go with. The corsair 2.1 speaker setup gets some really nice reviews and I own a corsair 800D case + K90 mechanical keyboard and have black monitors, so those would fit nicely.

The soundcard is really confusing me though. Whats the difference between the Asus DG, D2X and ST/STX ranges in terms of performance that I'd actually notice?
