House M.D cancelled:

House has shedloads of long arc stuff.

Do you mean that as in just in a character sense, or is there also a long story arc running through it?

As an example of what I mean, I would consider CSI shows to have long character arcs, but no overarching story(well a few weak ones) and it suffers for it imo. Whereas someting like Fringe/24/BSG always has a big story in the background, running all through the season if you know what i mean

'Touch' is Kiefer Sutherland's new show on Fox, they seem to be gentling testing the waters with that and I think they could stretch it out as much as Lost (ABC) etc.

You make a good point though, there are some serious gaps opening up in the US tv market. Too many reality/music 'X-factor' style shows popping up.

I thought the pilot was rather good for Touch. The end was a proper spine tingling moment for me.

Should also be worth nothing that Touch is by Tim Kring, the guy who was responsible for Heroes.

More character arc stuff really, but then you can't really have long arc stuff in this sort of situation. It's not like they're flying the hospital through space on a search for their lost home planet, after all.

And 24's long arcs weren't all that great... You're hamstrung by having a vast amount of time to look at a very short space of time, so any long arcs rely on exposition and differences from one "day" to the next, and even within any given day the plots are so contrived to make things last and you just end up with big reveals every 6 hours and huge changes of direction in what maguffin they're trying to get from which baddie at any given time. 24 had some good action and intense thriller type stuff, but by and large it was horribly structured.

I think House had a good run, some seasons were noticeably weaker than the rest but the show kept me watching from the beginning up until now and it feels like it's time to go for House and his team.

They could have ended it ages ago anyway.

Firefly on the other hand... :(:(:(

Having spent the last few months watching every House episode from S01E01 to the latest (normally when having dinner, quite why I decided it was the ideal thing to watch whilst eating... but anyway...) I have been less impressed with Season 8 than earlier ones - maybe it's just that Park's voice is just really annoying!! (And no Cuddy...)

I'll be disappointed to see it go - but probably better to go whilst they're still quite good, rather than ruining the show, like what happened with Scrubs, for example.

Now is a good time for it to end. Most of the last season or two wasn't as up-to-par with the rest of the show, but the last couple of episodes (focussing on Chase and House) have been really, really good pieces of drama. I think these episodes have also set us up for a good conclusion to the show.

About $800k as I recall.

$700k per episode, making him the highest paid TV actor in the US......Charlie Sheen earned $1.2m per episode of Two and a Half Men, but alas no longer, leaving Hugh Laurie top of the pile......

Sheen got that $1.2m for a half hour show as well......

I'm glad really, the show's ran it's course so no point dragging it out for longer.

And this means I can finally buy the whole box set without worrying about the possibility of another season being announced! :D

Just got caught up on the recent episodes and I am going to miss this show when its gone. The last few episodes have been really good, far better now cuddy has left imo.

Also, the new girl > Olivia Wilde.

It was good up until like season 5, the repetiveness of it got a boring. Every episode was the exact same formula every single time...

Loved this program and have a lot on DVD + Sky+.

But I too believe it has run it's time. Shame, but it was, perhaps to me one of the few better tv shows on at the moment.
