Follow evhs guide. If you then log out and try and see your photos you'll realise you can't see them...

Dont think you can stop people looking at someone elses photo, only the person who has posted the photo can change that.
If you dont want friends to see you in that photo you will have to untag it.
Unless there is a way of doing what you want and i'm simply ignorant to it.

I don't want anyone to see my pics but am unable to just keep them on my pc and not upload them to the internetz
How so? Out of the handfull of people I deign worthy to be on my Facebook, Around 90 or so I'm happy with seeing whatever. There are a few that I don't want all my photo's ranging back a few years to be visible to?
What's wrong with that?

Ahhh.....The beauty of Facebook.
Random people or close friends, tagging you in photos from epic nights out - showing the entire world of relatives and friends and even people who don't really know you that well - what an absolute plonker you really are in reality. And don't expect the untagging to do much - they can still see the pictures with all your mates tagged in them... and they are still going to wonder how you look so different when they meet you in person.... why you aren't dancing around that pole - with your T-shirt pulled up - pulling stupid faces with a cigarette in your ear - and a bottle of rum in your hand
All saved on the internet of Facebook for generations to come..... for all you children, and grandchildren to see.

As was said - if the photos are on other people pages - there's nothing you can do - apart from ask them to not allow them to be available to everyone.
You can remove any tags which show you - but you will still need to ask the people who openly show the pictures to remove the actual photos with you in them (they will still be there - but you will no longer be tagged)
If they are on your profile - you can make them private.
If the pictures are that good - people will have already seen/saved them - and there's not much you can do - apart from hope someone doesn't print them out and stick them up at work or show them to the people you obviously don't want them seen by

I would only ever use a social network if it was completely decentralised, where I actually own the server where my data is hosted. Disaspora is coming there, I might try it out and I am pretty excited about it. I think it is the future of social networks, where you have public servers that anyone can use or you have private servers that maybe your family can use.
