7770

It's even less than that adopting your figures.

40W x 3hrs / 1000 = 0.12kWh

0.12kWh @ 12p = 1.44p/day

1.44p * 365.242199 days = ~£5.26/year.

So 5-6 years to get the extra cost back of buying a HD 7770 over a HD 6850.

Just very brief off the top of my head figures. But yes, completely mute point is the green debate. Seriously I know we're in a recession but trying to make the 7770 sound good because it would save you some money after about thirty years is kinda reaching.

dave_beast.

You're a decent chap and I must admit I am rather fond of you, but please, drop the AMD fanboy bit just for a bit. The 7770 is a terribly poor over priced card with AMD's marketing pap to go with it which to me has made it worse.

Maybe now it can be clear once and for all that I am no "fan boy" of any company or any product.

A good product is a good product and a bad one is bad.

Ok, without mentioning price or comparing it to last gen cards, tell me why it's bad?

19% faster is hardly "nothing much" lol

It's poor when you consider the prices and that the HD 5770 was released nearly two and a half years ago.

The HD 6770 (which is essentially the same as a HD 5770) currently costs around £80 so the HD 7770 costs around 50% more for 19% more performance over two and a half year old technology.

And as I keep saying, that's disproportionate gain in favour of price.
These are meant to be your budget cards, your bang for buck cards.

Oh look, Verdetrol has awoken!

Green troll? I don't buy Nvidia cards, I own a 7950. I dislike AMD's pricing because it's extortionate at the moment with the 7XXX.

It costs £130. For £89.99 you can get a 6850.

Now before you think what I know you are about to stop. Just, stop. The 6850 is not EOL because you can still get them much to AMD's self stupidity.

Asus obviously just made a batch of them as they have loads on route to OCUK.

But, the problems deepen even more when you realise that for £130 you can buy a 6870 which will tear, limb from limb, the 7770 apart.

And you can say that the 6870 is EOL also but you would be wrong there too.

Firstly.

EOL means end of life. Meaning no future support. That isn't quite right though is it? because there are newer drivers out for the 6 series than there are for the 7 series.

Thus, all the time the 6870 and 6850 are there to be bought at a price then they can, fairly and rightly be compared to the 7770 quite simply as you can.

Again, like that other guy you are fighting the entire internet.

Hardwarecanucks compare the 7770 to the 6850 and the GTX 560 non TI (which isn't EOL any way you try to swing it) as do Bit-Tech and any other honest sensible review site.

I was completely with you on the 7970 given it cost the same as Nvidia's comparative part yet was faster, and I was even excited about it.

But this time mate you are completely, unabatedly out of your depth and just wrong.

As I mentioned before it seems that every time AMD get out their war drum and bang it it just results in epic failure. Every time they shut up they produce a good product.

This isn't an accident, this was intentional. This time they have gone too far and have released a very poor product WITH a very poor price. If it was great it could command a great price.

And stupid bottles of Jelly Bellys don't make something great.

Are you agreeing or disagreeing with me?

I thought that was pretty much the point I was making?

I'm agreeing.
The gain of price is disproportionate to the performance gain.
It's one point I've been making a lot, the 7XXX shows it clearly.

EDIT : It's actually amazing how AMD went through the effort of hyping the 7770 with its marketing lark.

Given the price/performance the 7770 needs every edge it can get.

Love the power efficiency features, but at the current price the cards aren't worth consideration. At 90 quid and below, maybe.

The HD 7770 isn't a bad card at all, it's just priced way to high, it should be £80 - £90 at most imho.

The 7950/7970's are priced fine agaisnt Nvidia's cards at most retailers ;) similar price to the Nvidia cards but higher performance and newer technology.

The Green Troll needs to get some new cards out so things can start getting competitive again, it's a shame Nvidia are so far behind...........

When looking at the price of the 7770 compared to the 6850 it's seems expensive, but remember those 6850's are priced to clear them.

And to all the haters of the 7770, crossfire them for £230 and get 7950 performance.

still laughing...

read my posts at the start - i said then and i say now , its about £20 overpriced for the its replaceing ; the 6770 - - discounted EOL cards? thats exactly what happened when the GTX 550Ti came out . The GTX 460 IS faster , yet costs the same as the slower GTX 550 - Nv will do the same , as no one really knows what kepler can and cant do (for the record i have an nv card)

but 1 thing is true - it will cost more in the segment than the card its supposed to replace.

the 7750 is about properly priced at £80 its just its big brother the 7770 is too much , but its the same as when the 5770 was released and its replacement.

now - the architecture - since the 7750 is a slot powered card , there will be passive cards on release , also look at the headroom - thats the efficiency (read earlier - why not release 1150 or higher cards)

or get 2 x HD 6850`s for CF and get near 7970 performance for less money than the 7770!
