What would be a good gaming mouse that works in limited space? I’ve got a gaming laptop and I use a laptop tray. My laptop has a 17” display so its fairly large and trying to play something like Mass Effect with a trackpad is near on impossible.

I’d love to go back to gaming on my desktop but, yep the missus complains about this yet doesn’t seem much bothered with me playing games on a laptop provided I’m in the same room as her… Yeah, women eh? I can game on my laptop in bed with a headset, or use it on the sofa provided I’m with her, yet I hardly speak to her as I’m engrossed in a game… Don’t figure.

Anyhow, I’m currently using my laptops wireless Logitech mouse as its quite small, but I’d like to use something a little bigger. My Microsoft sidewinder mouse seems fine, but I’ve only got the size of approx half width of a standard sized mouse pad remaining on my tray.. It seems the mouse movements required a little too much and I have to pick the mouse up, and move it over to keep going..!! its not ideal.

As my laptop has such a large base, well it does have a 17” screen shouldn’t complain I’m lucky to have a laptop that’s able to play BF3 or Mass Effect 2 and 3 etc… the space for moving a mouse on the tray I’ve got (and it’s a decent sized laptop tray with a cushion etc, its not a cheap dinner tray lol) is limited.

Any ideas folks?

Why do women always ruin our precious gaming time!

Tell me about it… They want you to sit there and watch ‘one born every minute’ or ‘Eastenders’ yet wont’ sit and watch me play Mass Effect which has a much better story IMO lol

She’s terrible with me and gaming.. I might as well sell my desktop gaming rig, I as even touch the power button its “oh no, you’re not using that machine again are you, thought you would sit with me’..

Yet, I put my laptop on, headset can’t hear a thing, sit next to her on the sofa whilst she watches rubbish, she cuddles up and I’m totally oblivious shes even there as I’m tapping away on a gamepad or keyboard playing F1 2011, BF3 or Mass Effect..

Crazy, crazy woman whom I can’t help but adore but cripes, she does hate me not being with her..!!

I think it's kinda sweet.

I'd just get a decent gaming mouse that's adjustable & have it on it's highest setting, It'll take a bit of getting used to but you'll get there & the missus will stay happy.

Logitech g400. Doesnt break the bank, logitech warranty and quality and doesnt have OTT styling.

Was just looking over that exact same mouse after looking over pretty much the entire OCUK stock of gaming mice... Ranging from a tenner to over a hundred quid... £26.99 for a mouse is prefectly fine with me, seems ok so i'll grab this... How BTW anyone can justify over a £100 for a mouse is beyond me, still if you're really into PC gaming then I can see why you might buy one. Logitech G400 will do me just fine, must admit the logitech wireless M305 has been fine other then its rather small and no side buttons... Not suitable for gaming at all, but still a well built mouse..

Cheers.

Order made, even got free shipping... Cheap mouse that..!!

Not familiar with the G400 but I am in the same position with the Mrs so I sympathise.

I use a G700 wireless which is perfect for laptop usage. I have it on the sofa armrest if in the lounge, or on a book if in the bedroom.

I also use earphones with the one on the side my mrs sits out of my ear in case she says anything important.

Ha-ha I know how you feel, But with the misus she works a lot and is rather tired on a night, so I put on a dvd (atm Dexter) and she falls asleep and then I leave and go on my desktop till 1am ha-ha good 5hrs sessions and that :D

I'm in exactly the same situation. EXACTLY. The main gaming PC in the house is pretty much just a media hub 99% of the time, as the wife demands I sit in the living room with her while she does whatever.

On my laptop there I use an MX518 and a Gamecom headset. Manage to get away with that pretty well, though it's not a particularly strong "gaming" laptop so it can be irksome when I've got something that'll only run decently upstairs (like Serious Sam 3 or The Witcher 2) and I fancy playing that, but can't lest I face the wrath of the ultra-huff.

When I first got The Witcher 2 and spent about a week playing it for 2-3 hours a day, she dubbed herself the "Witcher Widow", woefully exclaiming her newfound title every time I picked up my drink and tried to skulk off up the stairs... :D

Yes, know what you mean.. my laptop isn’t quite as strong as a dedicated gaming rig with a high end GPU however I’ve pretty much hit sweetspots with many games on a laptop which is enough for me.

I’m just grateful games haven’t demanded ultra high spec gear for some time now. Most of the games I play only a handful I’ve had to knock the res or details down, and even then its matching or bettering a console in some shape or form.

I use a sennheiser PC330 G4ME USB 7.1 headset which has a built in mic which I don’t use all that often, a PS3 DS3 controller setup as a 360 gamepad, a Dell XPs laptop and most of my games run good enough levels.. its comical as I sit on the sofa with all this kit on a laptop tray, but its what its come to, so there we go..

But likewise, it irks me when I’m playing BF3 and have to play at 1280 x 720 and I’ve got a desktop upstairs that can handle 1080 x 1920 (which is my preferred res) but can’t use it due to the ultra huff going off on one because I’m not within touching distance of me.

My missus called herself the ‘unchartable widow’ not long ago, she meant Uncharted 3 as I played it solid for 3 nights on the PS3, it was the last time I actually used a PS3 as now can’t be arsed with comments of you spend more time on that then with me…

I do love it mind that I go to bed with a laptop and play a game and she’s perfectly happy, yet I stay downstairs and play the same game so as to not disturb her, and she’ll storm downstairs and say she can’t sleep as she needs a cuddle??? Erm, doesn’t the screen keep you up?? Women, they are a strange breed..!!

Bit late but I would add I use the Razer naga as a mouse and Logitech G13 for movement. Its expensive but as I mostly MMO, the extra keys are invaluable when the keyboard is so bleeding small and I can lie in bed and barely move. Now I never have to touch it except for chat. Of course, WoW runs on anything...

LOLOL.

But some women really do like constant contact and close proximity.

They do, missus means no harm she just feels closer when I'm actually there and I do kinda understand.... She’s always been a touchy person and gets irritable when on her own, its one of the reasons I got a powerful laptop.

Its not such a problem provided I have some entertainment and not have to listen to the woeful tv, she will however gladly sit and watch top gear.. Woohoo not all lost. lol
