BenQ XL2420T Now available

looking forward to the review PCM2. Just to let everyone know also that i'm currently testing the XL2420T as well for a review on TFTCentral. A massive review in fact since there's a lot to test and try on this screen. Happy to answer any quick questions here as well, but expect the review available before the end of the week :)

I'd be happy to know which picture mode delivers the best colour/contrast accuracy after calibration.

You mean with a colorimeter? The TFT Central review will provide a profiling and this will presumably done using a mode that responds well to such calibration. As per discussion with Baddass there are some intricacies in certain modes that you have to be aware of. If you want to see how the 'out of the box' settings for various modes compare and how some of the weaker modes respond (or more to the point don't) to attempted calibration then check out our review.

As per the @pcmonitors Twitter account which you are probably not sad enough to follow the review is now published :). Sounds as if the TFT Central review will be published very shortly as a preview too so you guys are in for a real treat. And I'd have to agree - there was a heck of a lot to get through. This one is more of a thesis.

PCM2:

You will also notice a red protrusion at the back of the monitor. This is a ‘cable tidy’ which can help to organise the many cables you could have connected to the XL2420T. Unfortunately many of our cables were too short or too firm and thick for this to be practical.

That red thing is officially a "headphone hanger". ;)

That makes more sense. Funny thing is I don't use headphones so that didn't occur to me and nobody found routing cables through the loop to be particularly tidy. :p Edited this anyway.

Have you read the review Reactions? That says exactly what you can expect from the different presets. As all of the gamer profiles you download are simply modifications of 'FPS1' or 'RTS' mode the same uncorrectable oversaturation issues apply. It isn't a problem of white balance and can't be corrected even by using a decent colorimeter. If you were able to correct those issues you would end up having to alter the image so severely that the already poor contrast in those modes would suffer. Standard mode is certainly the best bet, and as explained in the review the Black EQ seems to apply to that as well.

Well thanks for the review PCM. I noticed a typo, you copied and pasted the lines from the 750D review directly into this review. Just check the last paragraph in the input lag section.

And after reading through this, I think the Samsung monitors sound better. It's really looking like if you want 3D with Nvidia get this monitor, if you have an amd card get one of the samsung monitors. If you just want 120hz, then get whichever one you prefer, as the performance difference is tiny.

It's really looking like the Samsung 700D is probably the best value 120Hz monitor out there at the moment.

Anyway, again, great review, interesting reading and I think the black eq thing is just a gimmick.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts Melmac - and glad you enjoyed the review. The S27A750D template was used for the review to make sure the formatting etc. was the same. Things needed to be copied and pasted from the new review (in word) into the website software. Towards the end things get a bit rushed as I just want to get it published - so I'm glad it was nothing major. The rogue paragraph has been deleted. :)

beefy review pcmonitors.org, will give it another read at some point too! Sounds like the Benq's is a good all rounder and does whats its set out to do ie good for gaming

Could someone explain in laymans terms how this monitor (or any 120hz) makes bluray movies look a gajillionbillion times better (in terms of smoothness/'apparent' fps) than a 60hz, given that bluray is 24fps o_0.

I didn't understand the first few google results.
