Occasional poor performance on new Sandybridge build

My new system is great most of the time. Runs BF3 like a dream. However, it's weird because in some situations my old Q6600/780i build performed better, such as when I'm browsing the internet and I've got a lot of tabs open. Sometimes my browser freezes up and I have to restart it and in some really bad situations my whole system slows to a crawl. Does anyone know why this might be? It's kind of frustrating because I spent all this money on my new stuff so I feel like it should be faster all-round.

I'm running Windows 7 on a Asus Gene-Z Z68 board, a i5 2500k, 8GB G.Skill Ripjaws.X ram, and a GTX 570 GPU.

Never tested my memory before. I take it Memtest is what I'll need?

yep Memtest86 worth a shot

my pc performance in firefox always use to slow down i had a lot of tabs open chrome tho i don't have that problem (haven't used firefox in like 2 years)

edit also open up task manager and see if there is something hogging your system

Are you running an SSD or a mechanical drive? I've seen random slowness and freezing caused by a drive on its way out.

You could try this:

control panel - system and security - power options

change balanced plan settings

change advanced power settings

hard disk turn off after [enter 0]

This fixed freezes and lockups/slow downs for me..

Not sure if it's reccomended, meh.
