Vectra Gsi, am I missing something?

Do they all look like that? I'm sure I've seen a few around like that and assumed it was some Ebay bodykit.

A standard GSI. Supposed to look a bit like the BTCC car of the day. You're right though - it looks like some shoddy Ebay tat designed for a different car stuck on.

The precursor to the Vectra GSI, the limited production run Vectra ST200 (google it) was originally designed to be Vauxhalls BTCC car for the road-type version. It had a slightly modified engine by Motorsport Developments (they were the touring car race prep team) and AP Racing brakes and a BTCC style bodykit. The GSI was (to a lesser degree) the full production version.

The facelift version linked to in the add above, had a £2000 Irmscher front and rear spoiler. Imo it looked pretty good compared to the Mondy of that time. Personal preferences and all that.

Calling it shoddy Ebay tat is a bit harsh lol. Easy to look back now and hate.

Edit ^ Just realised that makes it sound like I thought the car was a masterpiece of engineering, it's obviously not. It wasn't all bad, well ok, it wasn't very good and even worse when compared to the Mondeo. They had some good components in isolation, but if it couldn't handle, and had a terrible driving position, well nothing could rectify that. That's why I haven't gone near Vauxhalls since.

I thought I would resurrect this thread to give you a near 1 year update.

He moved out 2 months after purchase as he could no longer afford his journey costs. He still visited us till a few weeks ago as he has the hump with me over my car purchase (wont bore you with that).

He has been trying to sell it since beginning of December to no avail. He borrowed 2k and paid about £1750 for it, he has just refused the best offer of £750 for it.

The car has been fairly problematic. Two weeks after buying the Police stopped and warned him about excessive blue smoke. The engine light is on and the local garage diagnosed a ruined CAT from it burning oil with the valve stem oil seals as the cause.

The rear central locking no longer works, the CD multichanger has packed up and various warning lights remain on. To top it off the berk punched the windscreen in a temper so that has a wacking great crack in it.

On the plus side we did replace the Discs and pads all round including the weird handbrake shoes. He has done a few cosmetic things like change the grill.

The MOT expires on the 15th and I can't see a chance in hell it will get through without major money spent on it.

So all in all your comments were spot on about just how crud they are.

Lol! What an idiot to not accept that offer before the MOT expired!! No way it will pass emissions if the garage diagnosis is right so he'll now have to accept even less to shift it as an MOT failure or spend hundreds to make it worth 750 again.

Did he get any enjoyment at all out of it? Ya know, living the dream? At the beginning maybe? I genuinely hope he did, poor deluded fella. Reckon he's learnt his lesson on taking advice and being blinkered?

Jesus, I used to have a Vectra B CD or CDX, can't remember now which model it was and I hated it with a vengeance, had to keep it for 3 years though as it was company car. It was always breaking down, on average every 2 months. I also used to take the limp home mode light for granted as it used to me more on than off which for me was a signal to rag the arse of the car hoping that I could break the damned thing.

The hate developed to such levels that I now avoid Vauxhall full stop.

I have suddenly realised how hypocritical I sound after buying an Alfa 156 V6 a few weeks back. :o

The only defense I have was it was very cheap, better condition and not a daily driver.
