Honda Civic Type R JDM FD2! Been looking at one on fleebay and just wundererd what you guys think about them as for the same money you can get many other sporty cars.. Ta

They appeal to me - they seem to be rated rather highly.

They cost a lot of money, but probably one of the cheaper cars to own when spending this much money - they've barely dropped in value in the last two years.

Thanks, yeah I was thinking about low running funds as its a 2.0 Honda :) my little bro is a Honda nut with a mint crx and blade he put the idea in my head as I was looking at BMW's, I can't justify spending so much on a car that needs as much looking after as it probably would.. Plus everyone has them. My only problem with the Honda is with them been imports, I live on the Isle of man and would need to have the car Manx tested as if it was a new car, very strict test so I'm not sure if the lights would meet uk laws etc.. Thanks

What do you mean don't know if it would meet uk laws? They're imported and changed to pass uk tests all the time what's the difference with the manx tests?

They do still need quite a bit of looking after, far less likely to throw a massive bill at you than any bmw but you'll be spending a good bit every year even just servicing it. Japanese parts are expensive too before you even consider that it's a honda, then a type R, then a jap only Type R. It's no fun having a decent car that gets left to fall to bits because you can't afford to run it properly, I'm not saying you cant, just don't think it's a cheap car to keep going. It's not the same as buying a boggo family hatch and spending £100 a year servicing it.

What he said. These cars are very special and very rare in the UK. I would imagine that spares on the IOM are more restricted than the UK mainland and a Honda dealership will have never heard of them.

They are definitely a car of passion, there are quicker & newer cars out there for the same budget.

They don't need a lot of looking after and they are comparetively cheap to run.

they are more expensive due to the rarity factor

but in honesty, it is the only civic i would own over an ep3 based on looks and capability.

Looks superb. Expensive, but i bet its worth it :D

I know that the DC5 shares a lot of its servicing components with the EP3, do you know if the FD2 is similar to any of the other models?

It's a new floorplan but a lot of the prices for parts are similar and it's in the same servicing schedule.

Except for insurance (which is mainly based on the individual) and possibly tax, it costs no more to run than an EP3 or DC5.

The only issue is if you have an accident and you have to source rarer parts from Japan, but this is true of all imports.

Sure, you can buy cars that are faster out of the box but they will cast a lot more to run and I daresay won't offer anywhere near the level of involvement that the FD2 would.

My master plan after coming from the DC5 is to own the scooby for another year or so to have my turbo nutter fun then end up in one of these, the ultimate iteration of the K20.

They're officialy rated at 225bhp but when dyno'd most of them were making 240+

really really wanted an FD2... as i have two children it would have been perfect, being a 4 door.

settled for an FN2 in the end. oh well! in any case, its a very lovely car.
