Hey guys, im looking to overclock @ 5ghz stable,
I previously had the i7 2600k, but fried it in a dramatic psu error.

Im looking at both the i5 2500k and the i5 2550k, does anyone know any reviews or personal experience about both, and there overclocking capabilities, if so what motherboard are best with what.

And also, if anyone knows any other route, being cpu's > motherboards in the lga1155 platform, or elsewhere?

Well i have the 2500K and it overclocks extremely well, or atleast mine does, coupled with my Asrock Extreme4 Gen3.

I have mine at 4.6Ghz stable, but havent tried going higher, unless my cooling was upgraded.

I'd just stick with the i5-2500k, it overclocks easily and is stable throughout. The 2550k can be considered somewhat disadvantageous as it doesn't include Intel's integrated graphics which can be handy in certain situations when a GPU is not needed.

Is you 2600K still in warrranty?

24/7 stable 5Ghz is more dependent on the individual chip then whether it's a 2500k, 2550k, 2600k or 2700k (although the 2700ks do tend to get there more often).

The 2500k and 2550k are pretty similar except the 2500k has HD 3000 IGP whereas the 2550k doesn't have an IGP. If your on Z68 then the 2500k is better simply because of quicksink.

I bought my cpu from ebay, last july, i would'nt know whether or not it has a warranty, and if so, isnt it said that they are not allowed to refund/repair/provide you with a new cpu if it is an elitrical related problem?

I'm not sure when it comes to eBay, I believe you still have rights if the person selling it was a registered business and it wasn't an auction... Although I don't want to sound like I'm covering my nose in brown substances but that's what I like about OCUK I know where I stand and I know there is a quality RMA procedure in place in the event that I have to rely on it.

Basically as long as it isn't showing any signs of physical damage on the outside then you are more than likely able to RMA and it is down to Intel/the Shop to prove that the product was in a satisfactory condition when it was sold.

I would agree with IvanDobskey and the previous poster who suggested the 2550K can be a disadvantage.
