Warning: contains rants!

Been down to Sports Direct twice today, as well as a few cursory visits to the other town-centre retail outlets.

Every time I set foot inside I have a unsatisfactory experience. For one the assistants never have any idea what they are talking about. Being mostly college kids, however, I shouldn't expect much. Most of the time they won't offer to help anyway.

Then there's never any room to try things on, because the isles are tiny and there are hundreds of people milling about. And no seats to sit on. Everybody's bumping into each other all the time. And then you get families with 2-3 kids who seem to think a day spent mindlessly milling around town is a good day out...

And lastly these places are so over-priced its horrid. Proudly offering £5 off a £100 pair in their "sale". Whoop-de-do.

Now I desperately need a new pair or running trainers because I'm getting knee injuries that won't go away. Typically at the mo I'm doing 9+ miles once a week and a few shorter runs in the week after work. Not long distance by any means. And this is after not doing any running for years.

But I'm hoping upgrading my 2 year old Asics (which were a cheapo pair at the time anyway) to something better will help reduce the impact on the knees.

Ones thing's for sure tho, I won't be buying them at flippin' Sports Direct. Useless place.

Get yourself down to a local running shop for some gait analysis.

+1

Most dedicated running shops will have something likes this as will the the sports shops that only sell sports clothing, i.e. not JD Sports. Also, the single branded stores as well such as Asics and Nike Town.

If you're knees are playing up and your prone or risking injury then don't skimp too much on the funds but you by any means need to spend over £100. I think my asics were £80 from the asics store near Carnaby street, had a free gait analysis and they got me to try several pairs on.

Go to a shop that will check your gait properly. Runners need, up and running or some such running shop they will probably have you on a running machine with new trainers on. My first trainers I bought from them (saucony pro grid omni 6) were £80, I then just got the same or later models online so I pay about £40-£50 a pair.

Sports Direct is not a sports shop, it's an outlet for the Adidas-wearing scallies who would have been wearing Burberry caps previously. This is where you went wrong.

You need to go to a Runners Need, Sweatshop or similar.
