Hey guys, for the last few days I've noticed a silhouette at the window of over the roads house pretty much every time I pull out my drive.

Came back from shopping today and the guy came out and said "can you try and keep it down"

I replied "I'll try"

I've already been tip toeing around but I got a japspeed type 2 cat back on my sx and still have my cat on.

So about an hour ago I drove to the pub and he was there again just watching me.

I don't drive before 6am or after 11pm.

Can this guy get me done for sound pollution or anything?

Unless the exhaust was actually illegally loud I doubt it but who knows.

I try to keep the revs down when I come home at 10pm or later and mine isn't that loud.

Although I'd be tempted to boot it sometimes to wind him up....

Ok for the video, but it'll probally be in a couple of hours time. I wouldn't care but his neighbour has an st with pretty big pipes. Can't be much quieter then mine.

Unless it's over the road legal dB limit then there's nothing he can do, unless you're driving like a ***?

This tbh.

If you were my neighbour, as long as I could see you were aware of the noise and were being considerate, I wouldn't mind.

Until a few weeks ago I used to take my girlfriend to work at 5am. My exhaust isn't very loud but is quite deep. I was aware of this and drove accordingly.

The moron next door seems to take great pleasure in revving his bike at 8am on a Sunday to stop it from stalling. Many a time I've felt like telling him to fix whatever cold start issue he has (of course, in a slightly less polite way).

Nah pull out my garage, out the drive. Pull up outside the drive, turn engine off while I close garage and gate. Then hit speed bump city in a 20mph zone. I'm really light on the throttle.

Two ways of dealing with it really, carry on doing what you do and don't worry about him, or befriend him.

I find with neighbours if you make an effort with them they will be a little less inclined to kick up a stink!

He probably thinks that noise = speed

I've had the same before. Had some woman stand in the road causing me to stop because I was doing a 20mph in 2nd gear with a loud exhaust telling me that I was speeding.

Of course, she couldn't hear all the idiots doing 40mph down the same stretch of narrow road in their diesels.

O/T but is it not bad for the car to be starting, stopping and starting a cold engine?

Yes, it is.

Therefore, let it sit there idling and **** the neighbour.

Can't you tell I'm sick of these type of people. :D They're probably the people who do 40 in an NSL and don't slow down for 30 limits.

I'm a nice guy, honest :)

Or he just thinks that Noise = Annoying?

There's nothing more annoying than a loud car/bike while you're trying to chill out/have a kid in bed/in bed yourself etc.

If I were the OP, I'd explain to your neighbour that you really are trying to be as considerate as possible so he knows you're not just ignoring his requests, as he might not understand that your car is just that loud.

**** me if people get wound up about a car being around for less than ten minutes a day.

Must take me what...2 minutes or less to start and drive away. How empty does your life have to be to be so bothered?

Different story if you sat revving the nuts of it for ages most days of the week.

I'm sure there are more pressing issues than the sound of a bassy exhaust for 5 seconds every couple of hours.

There's a guy nearby with a Toyota Landcruiser Diesel. Standard exhaust, but that thing is way deeper/louder than my car. Yet nobody would dare whinge about that because it's not modified.

edit... Jonny beat me

There is a guy in my estate with a Skyline that has a very loud exhaust. I often see him when i walk to work and he is very visibly trying to be quiet, idling along using as little revs as possible going slowly. He gets my respect for that.

However, some people do just like to moan, so it may just be a dead end with this guy. I'm surprised he's making the effort to stand at his window every time you drive home though, does he have to keep checking its you? LOL.

I guess you two don't have kids?

It doesn't matter how long it's for - if it's woken you or your kids up, disturbed something your doing or is excessively loud and a regular occurrence, it's going to be annoying for anyone.

People don't have it out for you just because your car is modified, they're annoyed because it's loud and probably sounds terrible.

I'm not doing nowt daft guys. I've always been told to keep in with neighbors because your stuck with them and there's nothing worse then bad neighbors.

I don't over rev or anything provoking.

my phone is about to die so I'll be back in an hour or so with a video of exhaust if you still want/need to see it.(I'll do it from cold start).

I use the car for work, leave the house at 8.10am and come home at about 5pm. then a couple times a week outside these hours I use the car to go out but I'm always back before 11pm.

don't think he has kids, he is about 60ish.
