I currently have a Mazda 3 Takuya 2010 out on a 2 year lease from Mazda at the moment. It's due up in September.

I forget the final settlement figure, however I'm thinking it's around 7k. I'm thinking the car will be worth more than that and would it make sense me trying to gather up 7k by September and buy the car off them and then sell it privately?

It will have done roughly 25k miles come September and it's in excellent condition as you can imagine for a nearly new car.

P.S. I'm looking to replace it with a second hand car £10k give or take a couple. Any suggestions? I rarely carry more than one passenger, Have no use for a lot of boot space. Car is used mainly to travel in the local area and days outs, rarely sees a motorway. I'm thinking Audi A5 coupe?

Cheers!

Im not sure how these things work but,

Have a research of the current market, keep an eye on advitised cars with the same spec as yours and see if they sell fairly quick.

Im guessing your tax will run out in sept too so thats probly gonna cost £100 for 6 months.
Also any advertising costs.

You won't get an Audi A5 for 10k!

Not far off for high milers!

They are doing from around £8k in the auction for high mileage ones!

He doesn't strike me as the sort who would want one of the ropey cheap ones though.

Mind you judging by the state of the Audi approved used 40k miles one I test drove I would imagine its ready for the bin at 100k

Absolutely the most overrated car I have ever driven.

Glad I give off a classy personality haha. I was thinking of stretching the budget to £15k for the a5. I'm hoping to put down £10k and take £5k out on finance for the audi.

However they're coming in around the 60,000 miles mark for that money. I just presumed being a classy big motorway car in my eyes they could handle the mileage the same way mercs do/can?

If you can recommend another similar style car, preferably a coupe. I'd be happy to listen.

I'm not keen on mondeos, just based on the visuals, not my cup of tea.

Thanks again.

I looked at the A5 before buying a 3 Series Coupe instead. I found it very dissapointing - the interior quality was nothing like people had hyped it up to be, the centre armrest squeeked and everything looked decidedly worn. Whilst the condition of the interior is very much dependant on how its looked after this was a 3 year old low mileage Approved Used Audi so to me it didnt speak much about the durability of these cars. To drive it was.. alright, but nothing special. The fact the salesman wouldnt stop going on about how great the DRL LED's were kinda summed up to me what Audi is all about these days - bling first, subtance later.

The 3 Series Coupe was IMHO a better car - the interior was more appealing, it was far more interesting to drive and the engine range was very much superior.

But you claim to be after a Motorway muncher and I wouldnt have one for that purpose at all. The ride was pretty terrible, there was plenty of cabin noise and it just lacked the effortless refinement of something larger.

I think in your position I'd be looking quite seriously at a facelift W211 E Class Mercedes and a very good warranty/reserve fund for the disproportionately expensive servicing. Costs aside I think the E Class is the best Motorway wafter at this budget.

Thanks for that Fox. I haven't seen the inside of an A5 properly and I do agree, they seem to be all about bling.

I should have made it clearer, while I wont be doing a lot of motorway miles... if any. I do want that feel of a large, effortless, quiet cabin sleek looking car.

I'll take a look at the E class.

Your tastes and needs sound very much like mine, my 3 Series lasted all of 3 months before I decided you just can't beat bigger stuff.

OK, been doing a bit of research and I'm thinking of going back down the finance route. I went to a BMW dealer and had a sit in a 3 series coupe SE priced at around 16K. It was more basic and boring inside than my mazda! I wasn't too impressed. The ones in the showroom were very plush with the leather trims and geeky screens and lots of buttons and a big dial in the centre console... that's for me!

So... The Audi A5 seems to be out of my price range new. I'm liking the idea of a 3 series. However, there is more models than I can count. 318,320, 330 etc etc.

Any advice on what model to go for? I'm definitely wanting the coupe model, petrol and a 2litre engine. I'd also like a sat nav and the other gadgets mentioned above. Other than that I have no clue on the models. Tried looking at comparison charts but it just went on about engine torque and other stuff I have no interest or clue about.

If there's anything similar to a BMW 3 series I'd be happy to hear about it. The only thing that puts me off is everyone and their dog has one :(

If you are considering a new 3 series coupe be aware that the next generation coupe is nearly out (probably 2013) and we already have the next generation of 4 door (the F30)

Not sure if you'll care so much about depreciation with a financed car, but you might be able to negotiate a pretty good deal with the new model looming.

With the models, its not so confusing, the numbers after the 3 are a rough indication of engine power so a 330 will be faster than a 320 and a 320 will be faster than a 318

Ahh... is it just purely power, no other differences?
