NEW ISSUE, POST 6

(This isnt related to my other thread regarding a CPU swap).

My friend has recently swapped out his Gigabyte P67 for an Asus Z68. The computer is working ok, but some drivers wont install (such as the network drivers).
Is this because the old Gigabyte drivers are already preinstalled or should the new drivers override the old ones?

EDIT: Doh....just realised the motherboards section (after it got moved :p)....sorry.

It's recommended to always do a fresh installation when swapping motherboards.

Sometimes just plugging in the old installation doesn't give any problems and Windows can sort itself out.

Sometimes the system won't boot at all.

Sometimes it sort of works, as in this case, but there are issues.

A fresh installation is the only way to really guarantee no problems.

Hmmm, ok thanks :)

Quick one, if the computer has a COA on the case and I have a copy of that windows without a COA, will his work if I install with my disc?

If the disc is legitimate you should be ok, I assume the disc is not a branded version like Dell or HP.

Yes, as long as it's a standard Windows disc.

Just use the Product Key from the COA.

Your friend is going to have to re-activate Windows after a change of motherboard.

He may be able to do this online but could well need to use the call Microsoft option.

If he needs to phone then just follow the instructions, it's an automated process.

When asked just confirm that this copy of Windows is only installed on one PC.

Update on this, the new board seems to be dead.
The board is an Asus P8Z68-v PRO.
When the CPU fan is connected to either of the CPU fan headers, it wont work, but when connected into the Channel fan header, the fan spins but gets stuck on the CPU led (this is what he tells me).

Now Ive searched about this and it seems to be a common problem, but nothing about fixes anywhere....anyone got any ideas?

EDIT: My friend just found a thread, its not his exact issue, but it states that it needs a BIOS update, could this solve the issue?
