Birthday Cards

Does anyone like birthday cards? I see them as pointless things really. I'd rather someone say happy birthday instead of giving a card. I never enjoy buying them and giving them, because I know they will just be read and then chucked in the bin. A bit of a rant really, nothing to do with current events in my life.
 
Ahahaha! Strictly speaking, mine were more culty than birthday like! I never liked designing generic birthday ones and chrimbo etc buuuut when you get an offer from clintons you don't refuse! :)
 
I'm not that keen on them because I think they are a waste of paper (and money). I have hinted to people that they can send me a birthday e-mail instead, with varying success. It's just a pressure from modern society.

I know someone who spends ages selecting cards with the 'correct' message inside - to me, it would be far more touching if they actually wrote a few words of their own, instead of relying on something somebody else made.

I actually make lots of home-made cards with my little daughter; it's a good way to spend time with her, cheaper and more thoughtful than buying off a shelf and you think more about the person who's going to receive it. Still, I think some of the recipients wonder why I didn't just get one in Clinton's or something. :confused::confused::confused:

Personally, I'd be happy if birthday cards died a death. It's all a marketing trick anyway.
 
My other half tried to have a go at me because I didn't buy her a birthday card (I got her a Valentines Day card like 3 days earlier) Her birthday is the same week as VD, so why spend twice the amount so say the same thing?!

By this point I was already in trouble lol, she said the fact I hadn't got her one was the problem, I said I'd go get her one, thus eliminating the issue of her not having a birthday card, but obviously thats not good enough - another case of womens thinking

It's the thought that counts!!

As long as you thought about getting her one then should be okay :)
 
I don't think I'd be massively bothered if I didn't get any Birthday cards but at the same time because it's fairly unusual these days for people to actually write and post something physical it's quite nice to receive. I do try to remember to post Birthday cards for people that I'm close to but I almost never buy ones with a generic message inside, I usually buy ones that are blank and then write in my own generic message...
 
I also see them as a waste of card. At Christmas a colleague handmade a card for each member of our team. I was grateful, said thank you and kept quiet about how it'll be in the bin in a few days and only to be read once :D

I can be quite honest to the point where it looks like I'm being pessimistic and rude but seeing as she actually put the time in to make them I said nowt.
 
I think the modern birthday card is really suited to someone you don't see often because they live further away, people you see on a daily basis I would rather them buy me a pint or something :)
 
Hate cards myself. but the Mrs loves them. It stems from her mum writing war and peace in cards myself
