In a pickle selecting a GPU

Where or when was this deal? I suppose I am too late to the party as usual :(

No idea.

You can get a 2GB GTX 560Ti for £199.99 but no free game:

OcUK GeForce GTX 560Ti 2048MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card

You can get a HD 6950 for £199.99 with free Deus Ex Human Revolution:

HIS ATI Radeon HD 6950 IceQ X Turbo 2048MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card with FREE Deus Ex PC Game

Or this one for £209.99 also with free Deus Ex Human Revolution:

Sapphire ATI Radeon HD 6950 "Dual Fan Edition" 2048MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card with FREE Deus Ex PC Game

This Week Only offers end Wednesday morning.

Some Sapphire "Dual Fan Edition" HD 6950 cards have unlocked from 1408 to 1536 shaders with a flick of the BIOS switch, some haven't.

It's not guaranteed but a bonus if it works.

Some 6950's once the shaders unlock will overclock to 6970 speeds. So you effectively get a 6970 for the price of a 6950. As said above this has worked for a lot of people but not all.

HD 7850 2GB rumoured to be around £220 coming in March.

Worth wait & see me thinks ...

If the latest round of AMD releases are anything to go by it'll be a poorer performer than the similarly priced card of the current generation, i.e. the HD 6950.

That's assuming the £220 price is correct.

If the 7850/7870 was as fast, for the same money as the 6950 or even 20/30 quid extra (will be faster I know), I would get the 7850/7870.

Just as people should buy the 7770 over the 6850 (maybe even 6870), it’s a no brainer but people forget the power draw, new features, cooler, less noise, 28nm vs 40nm, better re-sell value, future proof-ness in games and more performance guaranteed to come over drivers. Who cares about 10/20 quid!! Seriously

Straight from the horses mouth:
The 7900 series are AMD's top end!
The 6900 series is now the upper mid-range!
The 7800 series shall be the mid-range and priced as such.
The 7700 series shall be the lower mid-range.
The 6700/6600 series are mainstream!

People don't forget those things.

For most they just don't influence their buying decision.

They just want the best performance for their money at the time they buy, or to pay the cheapest price for a certain level of performance.

hmmm... if that chart is right ... might as well just buy a HD 6950 2GB at £200 now rather than wait for HD 7850...

So going by your statement.. I purchased the pre-order 6850 from OcUK for £90, your saying I should have gone for the 7770 on a 'Today Only' deal (at a competitor) with their discount applied and paid £119.99!

That's £30 extra for your no brainer performance future proofness?

Bearing in mind that's a 33% markup, is it a 33% performance boost?
