I think this is the right area! A lot of people (including myself) were getting bad xfire utilisation at 1080p in BF3 and a lot screen tearing/micro stuttering. I've been playing around with settings and for 2 maps my gpu's never went below 95% whereas before they would dip into the 70's sometimes, giving me bad fps.

To partly fix this I used a 3rd party Turbo Boost feature but I'm almost sure what played the difference was Windows Aero, It switched it to a basic theme for me and the micro stuttering is only slightly more than 1 card and xfire utilisation is kept 90+ on ultra preset, only uses 85+ for 2XMSAA, it seems like the cards know they don't need to go full whack to keep 60+ fps though.

Just put this up for anyone searching for help through the forum or Google, still looking for a definite fix.

Is your 2500K overclocked or on stock speed? I recall bit-tech mentioning that even they got higher frame rate for the 7970 on a overclocked SandyBridge than on stock speed, despite the games isn't CPU limited. May be with fast cards like these, you simply need more CPU grunt to improve the scaling.

Also, is your moniter a standard 60fps one or a 120fps one? If it is just a standard 60fps one, I would suggest you use the latest beta version MSI Afterburner and use the frame rate cap feature to cap the the frame rate at 60fps. The micro-shuttering could be caused by frame rate going up and down too quickly, even if it is beyond what your screen can display (due to it is 60fps max). If you cap the frame rate at 60fps, meaning it would probably keep the frame rate constant at 60fps, thus micro-shutter might not happen.

I've got my 2500k at stock with one 7970 at full ccc overclock and it stutters like mad but if I put vsync on it runs butter smooth even with full ultra settings.

Make sure you guys have these...

I play a lot of dirt 3 on max settings think ill leave this driver then
Yeah, it kinda stopped me getting them as I run 5760x1080 Maxed on Dirt 3 and never ever has it crashed and I don't intend it to start now!

No you should be ok I reckon, there all close enough for me as long as I disable Windows Aero. I have it set up on a XL2420T now @ 120 fps. Wow seriously smooth, feels so crisp and barely the smallest bit of stuttering every now and then.

My I5 is at 4.6Ghz max temp 60 degrees when playing bf3 I never see it go above 80% usage so I doubt it's the CPU. It seems like it's a utilisation bug and the card/driver/game (don't know what's causing it) knows it's above 60fps so it just casually sits there, when it gets GPU heavy it goes up to 99% but I want high frames at 99% the whole time. Does anyone know why 2600k's with hyper threading don't have this problem?

I thought having the 120hz screen would force them to try ad render at 120fps but no joy.

The 7970 driver is not great for BF3. What does it perform like in Metro/Crysis or another demanding game? BF3 crossfire is a bitch for AMD and was with the 6-range until recently

I had the high res textures and dx11 tessellation patch in Crysis 2. Both gpu's were pegged at 99% but it locked up after 2-3 mins, haven't tried it since. The driver is ok but it's the gpu utilisation that needs to be sorted out, in some areas it gives me ~65 fps but both of them would only be at ~75%. :-( I'm amazed at how hyper threading fixes this for 2600k users.
