My mum has an 04 206cc Allure, which was in mint condition. All leather and 43k on the clock.

The other day they had a flood in their house while they were away, and unfortunately the cc was in the garage with the roof down - the car got filled with water... The roof mechanism, boot and cabin was completely filled, and only discovered after nearly a week. The engine is dry, and works fine, and I managed to get the roof up after a bit of fiddling with the button. However, the windows don't respond to the switches, and there are a few other electrical anomalies.

Has anyone had similar experiences, or work in a garage, who might be able to say what the likely repair cost might be? I reckon from a quick look on autotrader that the vehicle is worth about 5k, but I'm interested if people have views on that too?

It is not the same circumstances but friend who had Focus Ghia had his leather interior stolen including the door cards. The car was written off as a new interior was about £2,500.

Does the age make that much difference in value, when - for example - the one that is a year younger has done 5000 miles more?

Taken out of context like that Fox, then of course it does ;)

I suppose to put it more clearly, does age matter more than mileage?

CM1179 - Do you say that because you think it will be likely to cause problems in the future, even if they dry it out?

I know it might be a stereotype, but French cars are hardly known for their reputation on the electrics... I suspect having a flood is likely to cause lots of issues?

Flood damage can take weeks or months to surface. It's a french car as well which makes matters worse as the electrics are not the greatest quality to begin with.

If you do get it fixed you run the risk of random electrical problems.

Any pics OP? I have a mental image of someone making a garden pond out of one of these :D

Okay. Have had the initial repair quote from the garage.

Erm...

£6,500

EXCLUDING the VAT :o

That'll be a writeoff then...

Had a freind who bought a flood written off car, Rover 625 iirc was a few years back but the garage had gone through and replaced all the looms computers etc

From what we could gather it was no flooded to the extent that yours sounds to be since it was natural flooding the inside of the car would never have been filled and allowed to sit.

Dont know how likely it will be but might it be worth putting some heaters on it and stripping it to dry out for say a week and see where your at then might not be as bad as assumed?

Assuming its tap water it's better than rain water or sea water!
If its nice clean tap water and not dirty water from the gutter, you can try drying it out BUT; French cars used to be made by Bluepeter presenters from tin foil and sticky back plastic so expect strange electrical problems developing (all my french cars had electrical problems without the need for a flood) and once systems fail you'll need to replace connectors etc. The leather seats might be a write off as you'd need to strip them to fully dry them out. Your window problems might be due to water somewhere on the loom/connector causing a short. If the water got into the instrument cluster and other equipment behind the dashboard/mounted to the bulkhead - that might be bad news.

I'd say your best bet is to claim as a write off....
