Alan Wake now appears to be heading to Steam!!

Decent game playing it on mine with 3D vision just not that high using that, but still get a nice 3D feel to the game.

I`m not a gamer, but I have just spent 5 hours this Sunday playing this. Not since I saw Bioshock have I enjoyed a game so much.

For me this game needs to be played with a controller.....ive tried playing it with K&M and its horrendous.....pulls to the left and doesnt feel natural.....plugged my PS3 controller in and it plays much better....absolutely loving the game.....reminds me of the orginal Silent Hills.

I'm about 13 hours in now. Taking my time and looking for the collectables etc. Absolutely loving it so far. I love this type of setting, reminds me of Raccoon city .

Judging by the 53 coffee mugs I have collected I assume I'm just over half way through. I don't want this game to end.
Its about 25-30 hours on average for most players but I am on my 6th playthru of the game (played it 4 times on 360 when it first came out) on PC I am up to just under 20 hours for all 8 epsiodes completed (and I know the game very well the shortcuts where to go quickly etc etc). So if you want to 100% it I would say its around 35-40 hours in total the 2 DLC episodes both have achievements where you need to complete the entire episode in 1 sitting without getting killed or reloading a checkpoint even once. On 360 those were 2 of the hardest achievements I ever got on PC without any trainers its a serious challenge to complete those in 1 sitting

Some of those coffee mugs are really obscure! I found 96 but the missing 4 mean I have to revisit every location as no ingame tracking for which mugs are in what episodes left to find & you need 2 playthrus anyway as some manuscripts are only in the Nightmare mode anyway ;)

Just completed chapter 4, each new chapter I finish instantly becomes my new favourite one :o

I love this game.
Chapter 5 I think you can actually walk in the daytime from 1 end of the map to the other its a massive location no enemies to worry about until the end of the level when it turns dark. Takes about an hour to fully walk it though but epic you can do all of that with no ingame loading

That chapter 4 boss battle though was epic ;) episode7 I think has an even better boss battle to look forward to you will know when you see it

I'm a little bit into Episode 4 and I've found that the manuscripts at least are generally fairly easy to find. They seem to be either along the main route or just down a quick side route; they're never in genuinely hard to find places or randomly placed in the forests. Apart from one in Episode 2 that I accidentally missed (apparently I forgot to look in one of the shacks), I've so far picked up every manuscript.

I still look around and explore a bit, but sometimes I don't know why I bother when there so far hasn't been a single obscurely placed manuscript.

I feel that the GFX in this game is nothing to write home about but the amount of detail and love that went into the scripting and atmosphere in this game is tremendous, the attention to detail is really wonderful too. I'm enjoying it so far and that is rare as I'm an old jaded gamer who rarely gets into any games nowadays for very long.

BTW, on the pulling left when using M&K (or right depending on which shoulder your camera is looking over, TAB to change which shoulder camera) this is due to the simple reason that the direction of travel is always towards the end of the light beam of the flash light, it acts like a cursor if you like. So for instance, you might be on a narrow path or bridge and with your keyboard you may turn your character into a forward facing position but you might be drifting your mouse (hence the pointer for your light beam) towards the left (which would be common and your camera is on your left shoulder usually, you would always have your beam of light shining towards the left of the character) so the character will run towards the end of the light beam thus slightly drifting left (or right). Try focusing on where the light beam is and try to keep it centered or steer it towards the center of the screen or in the direction you want to move to. Once you get used to it, its really easy and much better then using a controller IMO as it allows for individual control of your body and the direction of the light beam, whereas controller you cannot, they both move in the same direction, hence no automatic drift.

Hope that helps M&K folks.

Quick question - is there any point in collecting the manuscript pages beyond just collecting them?
The 106 pages all tell the story & some explain what you need to do but no apart from that they only contribute atmosphere/story & achievements.

In the Steam stats, can you find out how many people own a game?

Ie, how many people have Alan Wake already?

Hopefully Remedy will continue to support pc gamers if the sales are good from this

2478 players currently playing it on steam now :)
