Some of you might laugh, other might wander what's the point and others will now remember that "once there were single core CPUs" :D

I searched for a Thread on this and couldn't find one, so - I'm opening one.

I have a Asus 1001P , 2 GB of RAM, running Windows Xp now.

I ordered a 120GB SSD for my desktop and the netbook will inherit the 64GB SSD from the Desktop.

The plan is to get the CPU to 2-2.1GHZ , the battery life lost from doing so should be gained from using a SSD instead of a conventional HDD, and I want to install Windows 7.

I've been doing a bit of reading and apparently this has been done, and not only that - some people overclocked the graphics card too , allowing these tiny devices to handle 1080p videos.

CPU overclocking was done with SetFSB and graphics overclocking with GMABooster (according to the articles I've found)

Any of you guys have experience in doing something similar?
I'm new to overclocking so I'll give SetFSB a try, I hope my netbook is supported. If not, should I attempt to do this manually?

dude, its a laptop, they are CRAP at overclocking and overclocking an ATOM is going to hard.

Do not use software to do it, best way is through the bios, but as its a laptop there may not be any overclocking options.

Be careful though, because laptop coolers are not designed to go above (especially low end laptops like the 1001P) their stock levels.

I wouldn't bother overclocking it.

Assus EEE Pc 1001P - latest BIOS
2Gb RAM
64GB SSD C300 - latest firmware

This is my first overclock...
It was fairly easy with SetFSB, I could not see a way in the BIOS to overclock...
I could only change the FSB.

I was aiming to overclock the graphics as well but that's for another day.

The point? The baterry saved from adding the SSD can go to a faster CPU.

SetSFB Settings:

It frose at 250, windowst restarted while doing the windows benchmark, seems stable at 240.

Fairly stable but not rock solid..

OCCT , I left it running for 20mins, max tem 68 during the test, I would say it's safe

After reboot you have to start SetSFB again... BOO!!
But it takes a few seconds.. :D

Any thoughts , suggestions?

ok, nice OC but you need to look at your temps... they are through the roof! and that's on stock!

be careful you don't overheat the cpu and do some permanent damage/reduce the lifespan of the cpu

you could take off the back and apply some new TIM after cleaning out all the dust etc from the cooler. this will drop the temps a bit but not by much

I had to take the netbook to peaces to install the SSD, there was no dust on the fan...
Taking it completly off to apply fresh thermal paste might be tricky...I'll do some research..

I thought that temps up to 70 dregress are safe...was I wrong?

indeed.

which one dude...

underload

OR

idle???

lol

lol , sorry, I was in a rush, my brain ony compiled one bit of the sentence.
the temperature it's like that since the beginning , under load it doesn't seem to get that much higher.

could it be that the reading is wrong?
I will test with Core Temp tomorrow and pay a bit more attention to the temperature fluctuation.

In the morning I spent the best part of my train journey (45mins) trying to install my 3G dongle...
all apps were unresponsive as soon as I would plug it in...but I didn't make the connection then.

tried about 3 times, I thought I messed up my OS with the overclock.
At work I restored to a Acronis image I took with just the OS and drivers.

On my journey back...same thing.
I disabed that great antivirus (sometimes a piece of s**) called Kaspersky Endpoint Security 8 and voilla al works fine. Odd, I have it on my work laptop and my home pc...never had probems...Device Control is on..
I disabled Device Control (controlls attached USB devices, printers etc .) and all seems fine.

I will check the temperatures tomorrow and let you know and then try to overclock again.
