What injuries have you had?

Bike smash in 1990 resulted in :-

Fracture of Femur which ran into my knee joint. Meccano set required to pin back together. Whilst one surgical team worked on this another team was carrying out a Splenectomy. Lost approx 8 pints of blood as a result of the Spleen being ruptured. Two broken collarbones didn't help either.

This happened at 18. I take Penicillin twice daily and will do for life. The doctors who worked on me reckoned the only reason I managed to survive was my physical fitness at the time was extremely high as I'd just finished my recruit training in the F&RS.

Yikes

More metal than the $6 Million dollar man. Still at least you've got your sense of humor :D

Iirc 'the' motorbike accident was someone elses fault, what came of that?

I think I'm only the £1 million man (asked the doctors what they roughly reckoned it to be £700-750,000 and i've more surgeries since then and seen more consultants). lol I can't complain about EVER paying N.I. now....

Will put a few X-rays when i sort out this bloody CD-Rom run time error. Can't decompress them until that's done. Got 3 CD's of X-rays, Brain scans (proof i DO have a brain!) and some MRI images i think.

Oh - and technically my blood isn't mine any more it's a collection.... I'm a mongrel - had 6 blood transfusions... lol Can't give it back and i want to because i wouldn't be alive without it but i can't as i've had a transfusion.

Will only put a few up - don't think I've EVER shown these to anyone in the 2 years i've had them bar my mum and 1 of my best mates!

Broken wrist and nose when I was a child, and various injuries from cycling accidents as an adult. Here is an image of one:

I've been shot in the chest at point blank range..

..with an air rifle.

My brother did it by accident, luckily the pellet caught on my chest bone but still have the scar to this day.

Never broken anything...well, nothings been declared broken, but theres something wrong with one of my toes that's for sure.

I did have a meckel's diverticulum once, that got removed...So I have some nice pictures on my intestines :o

My friend was one of my surgeons, he said i've racked up £500,000 in surgeries and aftercare alone.

Im surprised you still ride bikes! i've had quite a few scary moments in the race cars on the track, but i've never seen such destroyed humans as the bikers!

Indeed. :)

Ended up being off work for a year for recuperation then eventually when I returned to full fitness and got back, 9 months later I was back in hospital having all the metal removed.

Didn't put me off bikes though. In fact about 6 months after it happened I got back on the road on a little NSR250RR that I bought to get around on. Still had trouble walking properly without a limp at that point but I was fine once I was sat back on the bike. :D

Lmao at this thread.... something i can contribute towards lol....

Lets see....

i'm breaking them up into seperate incidents lol...

Motorbike Racing (160+mph crash involving 60-80mph slam into the back wheel of another bike!!)
Severely bruised back - saved only by my back protector otherwise Doctor said i'd have snapped my spine!

Motorbike accident/drunken bar brawl...
Broke my tibia/fibia years ago. - left leg

'the' motorbike crash....
broke my:
femur (replaced by titanium nail) - Left leg
tibia/fibia again.. - left leg
knee rebuilt (lost most of knee cap) - left leg
broke ulnar/radius - plated - left arm
broke 4th meta-carpal (little finger - also has metal plate) - left hand
2 wicked scars on left hand from there i had 2 titanium pins in whilst my hand was rebuilt - left hand
broke ulnar/radias - right arm
severed ulnar nerve - right arm
shattered humerous (meaning issues with elbow movement now) - right arm
broke wrist - right arm
arthrolysis - to remove most of metal in right elbow - still have some and it's a cool party piece lol
broken collar bone - right collar bone (didn't know i'd broken it until a physio said it had been broken....)
tracheotomy - dying a 4th time wouldn't have been advisable lol
Subarachnoid hemorrhage - brain bleed (where the membrane that covers the brain gets cut and bleeds and the blood kills brain cells.)
Broken eye socket - right eye (i think)
Skin grafts of entire of right thigh, and bit of left arm.

then....
motorbike racing crash:
right wrist (it wasn't until i had an xray for this one i'd found i'd already broken it...)

Nothing since though! :D

Think thats all of it.....it's a good job my handsome face, charm and modesty was saved as the rest of my body is stuffed.... lol

Some from the bike crash.... first time i've EVER shown these to the public!

Used to feel like a bit of a freak and people always treated me differently (with kid gloves etc as you'd expect) which only made it worse... had to learn to stand/walk/run/cycle/tie shoe laces etc and i could cycle nearly 8miles by time i left hospital.

Left hand...
IMG15sm.jpg

Right elbow - most of the metal work is gone now due to arthrolysis.

from a different angle...

Left femur (thigh bone)/Knee with fibia/fibia at bottom.

Left forearm....
IMG20sm.jpg

Left tibia/fibia - the metal work outside of the body is the fixator used on me to hold bones in place..... then they unscrewed it out with a normal posidrive lol.....
