...and now need to overclock it.

I should mention it's for work - we're a financial services company that runs a lot of modelling software (MATLAB), and the guy that wants this box basically wants the beastiest dual Xeon setup on the planet. I've also spec'd it with 2 x EVGA GTX 580 Classifieds as well.

Being new to Xeon overclocking (I've built about 30 Sandy Bridge machines using 2600's/2700's that I've done extensive overclocking with), I'm just wondering if anyone can give me any pointers/places to start in learning how to crank these suckers up? I've spec'd them with 2 x X5690 Xeons @ 3.46 Ghz - I'm hoping I should be able to get 4.4-4.8Ghz out of them. Anyone got any pointers for this board please?

Thanks in advance etc :)

You want to talk to either Nathwraith, Rjkoneill or Biffa, they are the only people i've seen on this forum tweak the socks off a Xeon SR2 set up :p

Is overclocking really a good idea for a machine that will be used in a business environment, processing important data?

Yes. It's double-point precision checked via the GTX580's, and the CPU's again integrity check the data handling when it returns a certain computation - according to the developer.

You could probably squeeze like 4.4 out of one of these (golden chip :p) but your best settling around 4GHz to make them stable.
