So, my renewal is due next week, and I now find out that my premium has increased almost 400%.

I have an ongoing claim from a crash last September, but when I was getting quotes in October, there was only a marginal increase (going from ~£600 to ~£700). I'm now getting quotes for £2,500! This is just a rant really, as I'm now struggling to find a car which is suitable for my purposes but affordable to insure.

I need a reasonably big estate to fit child/baby/camping/bike/etc. stuff in, but for anything bigger than a Fiesta or Clio I'd be looking at £1,200+

Not impressed, considering I'm 28, been driving for 8-9 years, no points on my license and have a single ongoing claim which wasn't even my fault!

<keyboardwarrior>tempted to find out where the ***** **** *****, **** ******* **** ******,***** "*****" ***, **** *** who hit me lives and finish him off!</keyboard warrior>

Anyway. Rant over, anyone got any suggestions? Preferably something that's also slightly fun/interesting so I don't get the urge to end my suffering by driving it into a river? :p

(Have to confess I've been looking at Suzuki 4x4s ;))

It's not tesco insurance by any chance is it? I was with them for 10 years because they gave me the cheapest quote each year. then in December 2010 it suddenly doubled from £300 to £600 so I went elsewhere. For my renewal in December 2011, I tried them again and got a quote for £989:eek: best quote elsewhere was about £280:p

You are aware that people generally need to switch insurance companies every year to avoid rises?

My renewal on a V70 was £1200, up from £500ish, went to a quote site and got it back down again to about £500ish..

I would hate to be in your shoes right now! 7 years ago my Civic 1.5 premium shot to £2k after a small bumper bender incident, that was from £700 odd! Imagine that increase today!

I was going to say something similar about renewals, but he does say he's tried other insurers and got similar quotes.

bledd.

Get a credit card and pay the insurance off in one go with that. Sometimes it can chop off as much as 25% from your premium.

How old are you?
How long have you been driving?
How many years NCB?
Which postcode grade do you live in? http://www.carinsuranceexplained.com/car-insurance-explained/car-insurance-postcode-risk-list.html
Do you have any points/convictions?

Try adding your mum to the policy as a named driver, see if that changes it at all.

Run through these sites..

Also, check this site for tweaking your job title for the cheapest quotes

It'll take about 20 minutes if you hammer through them.

I highly recommend creating a new email address to do this! (to stop spam) and use a fake phone number. If you take out a quote, update your email&phone number when confirming the details

I find Admiral give the best quotes for me.

Avoid places like Swift cover unless you absolutely have to, they don't have proper windscreen cover etc.

Insurance sucks, I got a renewal from Elephant last week for £960 it was £800 last year, the thing is i'd had a few quotes done with Bell and Admiral who are all the same company, long story short I called up and got it for £580 nearly £400 saving. So try haggling

so it's not only new drivers that get drilled a new one...

badluck i guess =/ have you tried companys that stick a tracker in your car etc?

Cheers bledd. I'll go through that and see what I can find - even on the comparison sites the lowest I've been getting is the Admiral quotes. That postcode list is quite handy though, apparently I'm in a grade D (lovely!) but moving in a month (not much good for the renewal!)

I've tried specialist classic/modified/import insurers, and they're way over £2k, even with owner's club discounts.

When the penalties for driving uninsured seem to be around £200 and 6 points, its hardly surprising that some people see it as a viable option!

I did have a look, and the ones I found stated no modifications :(

If I say my car is worth more... say £10,000 instead of £1,500... for "sentimental" reasons, it puts my quote down by a couple of hundred...

Would this be considered fraud? :p
