Question about Crossfire 6850s that arrived today.

My 2x 6850s arrived today, the Asus ones that were on a special pre order price.

I have installed them all fine and they are working in crossfire but catalyst is reporting one running at 790 (which is correct) and the other is at 725 when gaming.

Also furmark reports the same 790 on one 725 on the other.

Is this right? I would have thought that they would both run at 790 as they are the same cards.

Thanks in advance.

Hi.. thanks for the reply..

It is not downclocked. This is happening when in game or benchmarking and under load.

I've added a photo to try to show you what I mean..

I've never had crossfire before so don't know if its a dodgy card or just the way it works.

None of these settings have been changed. They were at these by default.

That's what I was going to do originally but I thought I'd better come and check this out here because it didn't make sense to me for one to be a lot lower than the other one by default.

I thought maybe crossfire was meant to work that way.

So this is normal behavior for one to under clock itself ?

I only turned them on because furmark was posting the same results as what I'm showing you and furmark wont let me screeny it full screen to show you.

They were off before I started this post and had been restarted.. Just on for screenshot purposes.

Preference Restore Factory Defaults.

If they are meant to be the same model with the same default clocks then one of them is suspect and may need sending back.

Take the faster one out and put the slower one in the faster ones slot and try with just that card in there. Make sure Overdrive is off an Afterburner or any other clocking software is disabled. Then see if its still at 725.

[edit]
Or if you had an ATi card in there before that was clocked at 725 that would be causing it....

Final8y.....Awesome.. That worked a treat and set them both to 790.

I'm guessing that the 5850 that I took out of there must have left a setting behind because that was 725 stock. Even tho I totally removed all drivers before starting this install.

I would never have thought of that..

Thanks very much everyone for your time.

Another quick question while your all here ;)

I read in quite a few places that to overclock Crossfire I need to edit a setting in registry.

"Go to registry and disable Ulps:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\SYSTEM\\ControlSet001\\Control \\Cl ass\\{4D36E968-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}]

and change "EnableUlps" to 0 under the 0000 and 0001 or 0003 keys."

Do I really need to do this or can I just do it in CCC overdrive for both cards?

AMD keeps your settings between driver updates, when card changes are made its advisable to Preference Restore Factory Defaults.

No you can just use the sliders in CCC.

Good job Flumpster, post here your findings about the crossfire on your games. I have ordered one of these cards (wife with a baby on the way), may manage to get another one to crossfire in the future!

Overclocked both cards to 900/1100 at moment with no voltage increase. It can probably go more but I'll wait a while to make sure it's stable.

BF3 is giving me on average 80-100 fps on ULTRA at 1920x1200 with them settings and the CPU is overclocked to 4.4 on a 2500k. Lowest I seen the framerate drop to was 68ish at one point but that's still enough for me to put vsync on.

Heaven Benchmark was giving me an average of about 65 fps at 1920x1200 full screen and the rest default settings.

I'll post up some screenshots and framerates once I finish installing Arkham City to test. ;)
