Ok guys this is the SP:
At the moment i have the following in my list of components, some have already been purchased elsewhere and some will be from here. I want to get my bits ordered this week.
So far i have decided on:
CPU: i7 2600k (already purchased at an £90 discount, retail
)
Mobo: Gigabyte Z68XP UD4 (not UD7 like my sig says, cheers Stulid)
RAM: Kingston Hyper X Genesis Grey 8GB
Case: Fractal D, Arc Midi.
PSU: CorsairAX 850 or XFX Silver 850 (leaning with the AX as its full modular)
Storage: I want an SSD/'s.
My storage as of now consists of a 4TB Netgear Stora NAS, on which i have my ripped movies and some other files. I also have a 1 TB LACIE back up drive which backs up my 17 inch macbook pro via time machine. Once this build is done the MBP will be sold, so i will still have the LACIE drive. I also have an old ATA/133 IDE Maxtor 80GB HDD but im not sure if this can be used via some adaptor?
Im planning on running Mac OSX Lion for normal day to day stuff and then windows purely for the gaming, but this is not a dead cert (osx compatibilty) and i could go just windows. So please spec me with this in mind.
Monitor and Graphics cards: Im going to do it this way:
Spec me a 27-30 inch monitor for gaming. I already have a Dell 2407WFP which will be used for normal use, office, browsing etc.
Monitor must support 1920x1200 resolution or higher. Not too bothered about 3D but if its available then so much the better. 60hz or 120 hz, i dont know, do i need it?
Once the monitor is specced, then spec me an appropriate Graphics card that will have the grunt to run games at the highest setting on said monitor rather than buying a card that will be overkill- am i making sense?
Btw, i will mostly be playing racing games - DIRT, F1, NFS and other sports - NFL, FIFA. Im not really a shoot em up player but having seen some of the graphics on these games im tempted to have a go.
Will consider single card and dual cards. Leaning with nvidia as i hear AMD have probs with their drivers.
Cooling: I will be going water with the CPU and GPU once the case hase been modified. I will come back to this one another time but you can feel free to spec if you wish. Im looking at 1x140.3 and 1x140.2 rads. Fans and controllers and all the rest to complete WC setup.
Keyboard, Mouse, Speakers: dont worry about these, more of an individual choice these.
Have i Missed anything?
Budget: There isnt one, however im not just going to throw money at anything. On a scale of 1 to 10 - 1 being budget component, 10 being the daddy, and 5 mid range (you dont say lol) please spec components in the 7-8 range.
I know something is missing but right now i have no idea. Thanks peoples.
P.S The arc midi will be getting modified, braided etc so i will need braiding, mod tools etc but once again spec if you want but not a big deal.
