Hey all. Recently bought and built my first computerbox from OC. Here's the order c/p:

Crucial RealSSD M4 256GB 2.5" SATA 6Gb/s Solid State Hard Drive
MSI GeForce GTX 560Ti OC Power Edition "448 Edition" OC Twin FrozR III 1280MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card
Intel Core i5-2500K 3.30GHz (Sandybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor - Retail
Asus P8Z68-V GEN3 Intel Z68 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard

XFX 850W XXX Edition Modular '80 Plus Silver' Power Supply
Kingston HyperX Genesis 16GB (4x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual/Quad Channel Kit
Akasa AK-CC4008HP01 Venom Voodoo CPU Cooler

Running W7 Home Premium. So my questions relate to bundled drivers and software. I would like to overclock the cpu and keep the shovelware to a complete minimum, due to the ssd.

Should I bother with the Asus 'AI Suite 2' software?

Can I skimp on drivers that don't matter or should I play by the rules?
Examples include: raid drivers (not going to be doing that) and 'Realtec HD Audio Manager', which just seems to be another system tray process that was working fine before it got there.

Appreciate any responses!

drivers dont take much space

but iirc you will need the following if you dont want any exclamation marks in your device manager:
usb3 driver
chipset
intel management interface base engine or something like that

these 2 can be disabled in the bios if not being used
bluetooth
lan driver

Hope this helps

You dont get the USB 3 boost either without installing them, not sure if there is a way round this and how much you actually need it. There is a handy temp sensor recorder in there as well to monitor CPU and MB temps to assist with overclocking. The latter is especially useful to see what temps were reached when under full load over a period of time. Ive put all the drivers in and always do to avoid the exclamation marks and windows update trying to always download them etc.

I use HW monitor which is a good free alternative to AI Suite for checking cpu temps etc....USB 3.0 boost not an issue in my case since I've no USB 3.0 devices.

I'm just doing a build on this motherboard and noticed yellow exclamation marks in device manager against some things.. the drivers you listed, are they on the cd that came with the motherboard? or do I have to get them from the asus website ?

You have virtually same system as me including SSD M4,motherboard etc
Awesome! Will it be perfect for playing all the video games? I have been waiting for the weekend to actually do the work so the anticipation of playing some sweet games is crazy.

Thanks for all the responses, really appreciate it.

I'm not sure if it's best to start a new thread for further MOBO questions but what does anyone think of the TPU and EPU switches on the motherboard. These are physical switches that set some sort of system that monitors and manages thermal and energy demands across the board. The TPU one seems to be directly related to overclocking but I have no idea if I would want to manage this myself (following a guide) or if TPU would simply 'help' OCing or not.

Lunch is over now so I gotta leave it there. I'm sure there was something else I was going to ask :)

I never bothered with TPU switch since its so easy to overclock via BIOS ,I guess TPU is for those that hate going into BIOS or scared lol,EPU switch never bothered with either energy saving wise, why well CPU via Speedstep in BIOS will slow CPU down to 1600 or so while its not under stress and go to max speed when needed so that saves some power and energy, sure EPU has more energy saving features and you can do it via Asus AI suite too but not really needed.

Btw new BIOS out today for this board, done mine already via USB ,so easy to do ie put BIOS file onto USB stick (FAT16 or 32 format) and go into BIOS and you see option to flash under Tools menu.

As to gaming question well mine is running great overclocked in BIOS even in gaming, excellent stability, also new Nvidia video driver out yesterday as well(yes got those installed to).

Btw general overclocking Asus P67/Z68 BIOS settings guide link here,http://rog.asus.com/forum/showthread.php?2453-P67-Z68-BIOS-Guide-BASIC-Intermediate-Overclocking
