Better than "stealthing" a DVD drive?

So you've just bought this great looking case, lets say a BF Shinobi, and you get to work installing all your components slipping a cheeky DVD drive in the top 5.25" bay on the way. You take a step back to gaze proudly upon your work and you see something like this.

A cheap nasty ugly dvd drive ruining the good looks. It's kinda like this...

Soo you boot up your pc go to overclockers and look through all the drives to see if one will match. Shock horror! They all look the same.

Some of you may now whip out your dremel and stick the 5.25" panel to the front of your drive to "stealth" it. Those who don't want to do this are stuck.

I'd love to see any solutions anyone has found to this, I'd be more than happy to see your stealth mods, if you have a matching drive etc.

I found this http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18067026 which would match my cases brushed aluminium front but unfortunately there's nothing around like this anymore. I also love the slot loading types which are also rare :/

I think case makers should make dvd bezels to match their cases that you can replace you stock dvd bezel with. What do you guys think?

Nice to see that bitfenix do one as well. I considered one for my lian li, but it would have been pointless as i have a fan controller on the case as well. Though tbf, it's a nice brushed metal finish zalman that matches the case very well.

Bitfenix shinobi you say?

Say I.

Lian li do a similar thing for all their cases. Would be nice if more case manufacturers did it though.

I had no idea, that is brilliant! I agree, more manufacturers should be doing this. Unfortunately I don't have this case but I do love it, I was tempted to get one before I was just put off by the dvd thing... maybe I should. Oh god not more money.

I've noticed that fan controllers usually have different designs, in fact most pc components do. Why dont dvd drives since they usually visable on the outside? :S

remove it?
Agreed, ill be moving to an external blu ray drive with my next case. I rarely install games now via disk, due to digital downloads. Blu rays on rare occassions is the most use i get from my optical drive now.

remove it?

I don't really use it that much but being a badass pc you'd expect it to be able to have a dvd drive. Plus you have all that space inside the case and then to go get out the external drive everytime you need it seems silly.

I don't have one installed, and when I need it I "ghetto mount" my old one just to install the game, and that's rare

I put it beside my computer and attach the cables, what were you thinking? :p

You don't want to know.

OK I'll tell you, imagine GTA San Andreas, CJ, Ryder, Big Smoke some low riders all outside his crib chillin.

I told you you didn't want to know. :P

You don't use your PC for media enough clearly :p

I'm probably playing films on my computer daily, and whilst I have a relatively large store on my HDD, some still require me to attach a DVD drive...

I know quite a few people are moving away from them now a days, but I just think it's easier to keep one in :)

It really bugs me actually that it is basically impossible to find a nice fan controller that fits in with the theme of any particular build...

Ohh fair enough, I've never been that interested with fan controllers, only had a quick browse through em!

It's got to such an extent I'm looking into building one myself now xD

Well, there's a number of reasons.. One big one would be that each case is different and so the material used in the fan controller is quite different from each particular build. Usually, fan controllers from the same chassis manufacturer would blend quite nicely. The rest of the time, it'll be mix and match. It's actually very hard to find a fan controller that will match, without repainting/carbon wrapping/modding the case, etc.

Blu tac. 3m stickied foam. Job done.

RV-03 is sufficiently stealth.

Shame I don't have a SATA cable long enough to connect the bugger...

The nzxt sentry i have looks pretty good on the 800d even if the brushing is perpendicular, but that only shows in a particular light!

The aquareo without the screen fits into any build without looking out of place!
